Help Tuning the 159 1.8 MPI

Hi there, just bought a 1.8 MPI version of the 159 knowing full well that it would not be a fast car. After 1,000 miles, it is loosening up nicely and goes ok all things considered for the size of the engine, especially when the gears are used correctly!

Having had a previous Subaru remapped (280bhp) and having used a Bluefin remap on a Mini Cooper, is there anything that can be done with regards to getting more power out of this new engine? I'm not looking for silly mods (like new exhausts etc), just looking to get more out of the engine via chipping/airflow etc.

I look forward to any answers you may have!

Many thanks

Re: Tuning the 159 1.8 MPI

I put a BMC air filter in mine and it feels a little more free revving higher up. Don't know about re mapping though. Gazzella racing is where I got mine from, about £40 and they were very prompt. Others are available!! Its a bit of a pig to change though because you need to remove the under tray or at least release part of it to get to the air filter which is located in front of the offside front wheel.

1.8MPI is Opel/Vauxhall Twinport engine, it is normally aspirated so I doubt that you will gain much with remapping...

Thanks TribesMan, didn't know that was where the engine was sourced from. Will probably leave it as it is, having problems with oil temperature warning lights at the moment so not in the best of moods as Alfa are saying the new sensor is on back order and they have no idea when they can fix it - nice considerring the car is only a month old!

Hey Andypj, I just ordered a BMC filter for my 159 1.8 MPI. Just wondering will it fit straight in or will I need some kind casing to coneect the BMC filter?? Is the original filter a panel filter?

Thanks
Pete
