2.4JTD Tuning

Following people's advice on alfaowner I had my 2.4JTD re-mapped by Red-Dot.

Augusto was very professional and polite and did the job while I walked around the natural history museum in London.

I'm very pleased with the power, especially at higher speeds. I used to notice the power backing off at about 4000rpm but now it pulls all the way round, but I never pull it into the red.

He did have 200bhp, but the soot from the exhaust and the mileage made him turn it down to 190bhp, not that I'm complaining.

It's also got a 2.5inch stainless exhaust from the filter-back, not much more noise but a little more gutsy at full throttle.

The only disappointment is clutch-slip, but this is only when you are cruising in fifth and then palnt your foot down, guess that's the next job!

Well I'm a happy bunny, see you at the lights

Brera, soon...

Re: 2.4JTD Tuning

Wonder why the 2.4 in the brera makes 200bhp standard ? What is the difference between the 2.4 diesel versions ?

Whats the best chip upgrade for a Brera anybody ? I have seen figures of 250bhp quoted before.... Also, anybody tried to improve the breathing on a diesel Brera or any other mods ?

Re: 2.4JTD Tuning

very good & interesting.

with a few breathing mods you would get the torqu coming in earlier and holding out for longer.

What difference did the 2.5" exhaust make? Do you know what the exhaust diameter is as standard?

How many miles has it done?

Clutch slip usually means its on its way out, the original clutch in mine lasted 162,000miles, I changed it for preventative maintenance along with the belt, but it really hadn't any life left in it.

Re: 2.4JTD Tuning

According to Augusto the exhaust shouldn't make any difference to the BHP, it can preserve the turbo and makes the engine sound a bit more meaty.

I don't know the ID of the standard exhaust.

She's done around 96,000 miles.

I've seen uprated items on eBay for around £170.

Re: 2.4JTD Tuning

apparently the standard clucth is good for 200bhp, same as fitted to the 200bhp modern alfas (according to our local alfa dealer), but it is the torque that kills them.
Mine runs 313lb/ft and the torque is there ealier and for longer, the standrad replacement clutch does not noticably slip.

Beware of merely uprated springs, if you can get something a little better.
standard clutch is around 110quid, proper uprated nearly double.
if you intend to keep it a life time, I would uprate it, if not, just go standard.

Well the noise is pretty good so far Paul and she seems to spool up alot more easily with the improved acceleration that goes along with that too !! (she hasn't been near a rolling road since having those fitted )

It's all part of a 'master plan' that includes a custom remap too !!

I forgot to mention that a performance exhaust system also reduces engine temperature at full load.

Re: 2.4JTD Tuning

Didn't realise you were from around these parts. Funny you should mention those lights, they were the reason why I had a tune up. A 206HDI was level with me in standard tune, could handle the grief from the wife

While I'm here has anyone got a rough idea of price for a clutch change?

How much would a dual-mass flywheel be / do they make a one piece equivalent?
