Dampers and Springs - Can you buy any combination?

Hi,

Not sure about this, say I bought Dampers for my car, would ANY lowering springs fit the dampers or do you have to use ones specifically designed to be used in conjunction with the dampers you have bought?

Cheers

Theoretically you can, provided the dampers and springs are designed for more or less the same amount of lowering (or no lowering). Of course every setup will feel different and you have no chance to estimate in advance what springs and dampers will be a good match. The best way is to try someone’s car that has uprated dampers or springs or both to have an idea. It is very subjective, depends on your idea about comfort and your driving style. The most usual and proved combinations for people who didn’t buy coilovers but matched separately bought springs + dampers together probably are:
Eibach + Koni
HR + Billstein B8
HR + Koni
OEM springs + Billstein B6
Autodelta + Billstein B6

147 1.6TS (2002) Nerro, Beige Interior, 17" OZ Ultraleggera wheels + Potenza RE050, Billstein B8 dampers + H&R -35mm springs, Galfer Extreme Brake kit, ECU remap, Variable intake manifold, Custom made stainless steel exhaust manifold, 100cell racing cat, straight SS center section with resonator, Supersprint back-box, GTA spoiler, Lester GTA side skirts, GTA/Ti headlights, Blaupunkt Los Angeles MP74 + Focal Polyglass 165V2 (front) + MacAudio DVD 2.16 (rear) + Dynamat + custom fit HERZ subwoofer
