Air box upgrades and Induction kits

Could someone point me in the right direction....
I have spoken to a few people and spent lots of time on the net and there seems to be mixed opinions on the topic of cone filters and cold air induction.
Would you recommend a BMC CDA filter or a cone filter with a heat shield?
PRI racing do a kit for the 147 called the green forced air kit. Is that a good idea?
I have a 147 1.6, the 105 bhp version. Would an induction kit improve the sound? Would it add power?

Re: Air box upgrades and Induction kits

Forced induction on a 1.6 147... Sounds like a waste of time and a waste of money. The CDA may be a good option, although it won't give you any more power. maybe 1/2 HP. Some people will tell you it sounds nice though..

The standard induction on our alfa's is pretty good IMO. I would leave it alone and sort a full exhaust system and remap.

Re: Air box upgrades and Induction kits

you could always drop a panel filter in and remove the resonator. it would not give much gain as opalfa has said. wouldnt do any harm if you wanted to put a CDA in tho, and you can always use it on your next car too.

Re: Air box upgrades and Induction kits

I had a 147 1.6 T.Spark before, all i did to it was to get a specialist like alfarama to change the manifold and downpipe to the supersprint ones and remapped the car and also they made the diameter of where the air intake pipe comes in from the front wing to the airbox a little bigger so they could fit a alfa 156 2.5v6 induction pipe, this sounded awsome, i tried the GTA intake pipe but was noisier and lost some torque on the rolling road. When it was standard the car was doing 119.6bhp after the remap by reddot it was doing 129.2bhp then final figure with the right induction and supersprint it was at 134.1bhp. Not bad for a little 1.6 wish i kept the car now.

It may not give you much of a power increase but it does alter the character and there is a perception that the car could be a bit more responsive.

Re: Air box upgrades and Induction kits

I replaced my standard filter with a K&N direct replacment one,and took off the resinator section and replaced that with a straight stainless tube. The result was the same as having the BMC CDA fitted, only slightly quieter.I am sure that if i re-route the intake pipe making it shorter and wider i would gain more. But as with any mods one thing leads to another and everything needs to be in balance. On mine i have the two pre cats and main cat,so in order to gain more power i would need to remove the pre cats and fit a sports main cat in order to make use of extra induction. Then i need an exhaust to maintain that power increase.Which means loads of ££££.And thats before you start talking about high lift cams and high compression pistons, and a map to suite.

It's a piece of cake to fit buddy. Gazza82 has an excellent PDF.

PM me your email and I will send it to you

I'm still waiting for my bloody GTA Intake pipe to be delivered. The dealer told me it would take 6-8 weeks to arrive!

Re: Air box upgrades and Induction kits

hi I've just bought a 147 2.0 t.s. I want to fit an air filter and an exhaust, which would the best options. P.S. do performance spark plugs make a difference?

Re: Air box upgrades and Induction kits

air filter-read the above. i personally have the bmc cda, i cant vouch for gains as any apparent boost in performance after fitting may have just been due to the old filter being filthy. does sound nice though.

exhaust wise, i have a csc back box, standard centre, and a silenced decat. not too loud, but does get a touch raspy at high revs.

performance spark plugs dont make much of a difference, just a cleaner, sharper spark. i doubt performance plugs will improve bhp at all, just maybe, maybe sharpen up the engines response.
