Performance Clutch

Was just wondering what these do and if they're worth it?

I need a new clutch for my 164 V6 24v. Black Diamond do a performance clutch, as do these guys.

Took my car in this morning and just been informed that the clutch was on back order and won't be in until next week at the earliest, so I wondered if it was worth putting an uprated clutch in? I don't intend to do any serious power upgrades to the engine, but the Black Diamond site suggests that their clutches result in less transmission power loss and as I don't really know much about clutches, wondered if this was true.

1.21 GIGAWATTS?!

97 P 164 3.0 Super, 95 N 164 TSpark (Sold to a mate, so I can still see it!), 95 M 164 Cloverleaf

Re: Performance Clutch

Standard one should be well up to the job shouldn't it?

Even tuned (and its a great engine) you don't get the torque/power increase that you do with the JTD's, so for me even tuned the standard clutch should be OK.

Re: Performance Clutch

Yeah, I'm not going to bother. It was simply that Black Diamond were claiming 25% less torque loss through their clutch, but if a clutch isn't slipping, then it can't be losing torque as far as I can see.

The only thing it would make is for faster gear changes I guess, but I don't need that.

i visited the link, but i couldn't find anywhere in what way the clutches are uprated, beside having the pressure plate in funky blue (which might not even be on the one you receive, generic foto).

If it's just a different material for the friction plate, these tend to last less long than standard clutches, though if it allows you to prevent slippage it'll obviously outlast the standard plate.

if the pressure plate is uprated, you might need to grow some more leg muscle to declutch....

Re: Performance Clutch

essentally as you've got the later 24v version you have the same engine as my gtv. i'm in the same boat although prob need a flywheel too, as its dual mass its looking costly. i've been given th option of fitting a clutch kit and flywheel from the 156 2.5 v6 24v as its not dual mass. this would make the clutch lighter and more responsive. speaking to people who have opted for this they comment on how much more revvy and quick off the mark it seams..

maybe worth considering. but check its possible on yours
