Upgrades and mods 147

Sure this is a common topic, but I have searched the internet and can't seem to find any hard and fast suggestions.
I have a 147 1.6 progression and I would like to do some upgrades.
Can I do the standard stage 1 and stage 2?
Would they make a substantial difference?
Would you recommend a turbo or a supercharger?
With the extra torque from all of this, will the engine support a six speed gearbox?
Is there anything that I need to take into account that I haven't thought about.

Thanks a mil

If you can find one that fits. I haven't been able to find one yet.

Unless of course you buy a custom-made but they are vey expensive.

Alfa 166 post 2003 facelift was available with 2,0TS with 6speed manual gearbox. This one might fit. Just an idea, maybe it is bigger and won’t, I don’t know... But it should fit on the TS engine at least.

Re: Upgrades and mods 147

I know about the 166 2.0TS but I have been told that it won't bolt onto the 156/147/GT front subframe. The 166's subframe is different and consequently the gearbox shell is longer.

If you can find a 166 gearbox with the option to return it if you cannot use it (I couldn't) you can try to fit it and let us know if it can be done.

I didnt know about this. Seems too much things to adapt.
But if you have seriously increased your TS power, you can try fitting longer 5th gear. This is not so expensive and available from Novitec or Autodelta. Can help something to higher top speed or economy on long journeys.

Re: Upgrades and mods 147

Yes, my TS is more powerful from stock. I still don't know exactly how much since fitting reprofiled cams until I have the car measured but it feels a lot more powerful than before the cams. I must also have the Unichip remapped first before even thinking of a RR session.

I have thought about the AD/Novitec longer 5th gear. I think that it is possible to fit a longer 5th gear from a 156 2.0TS gearbox. I've been told that it is easy to do without having to unmount the gearbox because the 5th gear is easily accessible from the side. On the other hand I prefer the crisp response of the short 5th gear even if it makes the car a little noisier and less economical on long journeys -I rarely do any anyway. I consider not having to downshift to 4th in order to overtake as an extra safety feature.
