Overhead DVD

Hi,

My 'other' car is a Honda FR-V.I am looking to change this to a DVD player. The in car audio system doesn'r read dvds, so I need an all in one solution.

I have seen

C-1032 10.4" TFT LCD OVERHEAD CAR MONITOR/W TV DVD PLAY on eBay, also Monitors, DVD Players Monitors, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 13-Jan-08 18:01:33 GMT)

on fleabay and it looks ok. Anyone know if it is suitable?

The car has a dome light in the centre of the ceiling which I can (presumably) use to power the unit.

Any help appreciatd.

Re: Overhead DVD

i wouldn't rely on the dome light powerwire to supply enough juice to drive one of those. small risk of overloading the wire and blowing the fuse. best to tap into a more robust power supply directly from the battery or fusebox's main powerwire.

more importantly, you have to determine how to attach it to the roof. you cannot/should not simply screw to the liner. ideally, you want to attach to the main cross member across the roof (roll-over bar), but this/these may not be suitable positioned for such a job. and if not, you will need to modify the roof structure to hold it.

so it's potentially a lot of installation work. but otherwise, it will work.

mind you, cheap ebay LCDs tend not to be very flash in terms of build and picture quality. though you're probably not expecting a lot.

also consider how much it will obstruct your rearview vision via the mirror.

Re: Overhead DVD

Excellent - many thanks for the info. A bit more work than I'd imagined but isn't it always! I wouldn't have through of weather or not there was enough juice through the dome light. May be beyond my skill level then!

Thanks again.

Cheers

Jeff
