Clutch upgrade.
I think I'm going to stick a 2.0 clutch in my 1.8 156 as I believe it is better to cope with the power going through it.
How much should I be paying to get this done?
I've had one quote at £340 at an alfa specialist.

Re: Clutch upgrade.
I'd be interested if there's an upgrade available for the 1.9 JTD engine (sorry to hijack the thread), the remap's almost polished mine off and I haven't got a clue where to look.

Re: Clutch upgrade.
Parts alone,
std clutch is around 100-120quid, even for a 2.4 jtd.
uprated are usually 100quid more.
and paddle clutch/competition use (awfull on the road) around 240-280 for 2.4 JTD, others may vary,
just a guide.

Re: Clutch upgrade.
So is £340 reasonable on a twin spark?

Re: Clutch upgrade.
Cheers Chill, I'll have a look into them.
Don't want anything too harsh and 'competitiony' but I could do with something that will take the extra torque of the remap.

Dibby
I think it is about 30% upgraded. Mine has also had a remap and I am having one fitted next month along with a Q2 diff, whilst it is being serviced.

Re: Clutch upgrade.
Could be a blessing in disguise because it looks like that site has a ton of clutches for a ton of different Alfas - you might find what you're looking for in there OA.

How much extra torqu does a remap give on a 1.8/2.0 petrol?

Re: Clutch upgrade.
Whatever you do don't buy a techniclutch. I bought one for a Rover 820 vitesse and it lasted 50 miles. I had to remove the gearbox again, a manufacturing fault meant that it started slipping after this mileage.
I was very unimpressed.

A standard clutch will be more than sufficient.

I got mine from CG Motorsport via eBay. The friction material is the same as standard but the main bit (don't know the technical term) was different when comparing it to a standard 2.4 clutch kit. I must say it has never slipped and bites really good, plus I only paid £130 which isn't too much more than a standard clutch kit.

Yep, I'd say on a 1.8 T.Spark a new clutch will be so much better just for the fact that it is new, whether or not it is uprated. Whats the actual difference between the clutch on a 1.8 and a 2.0, if they are a direct swap for one another? I'd have imagined they were the same part, maybe just two part numbers so Alfa can charge more for the 2.0..

Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

Re: Clutch upgrade.
the 2.0 has a bigger contact area. As I am running the equivalent of a 2.0, if not quicker, then its best to fit this. I have no idea why they just didnt use the same one.
I need to talk to you about your 3.2 pud as I have someone that may be interested. Will probably have a chat in the next few days.

If its a direct swap and not much more in terms of cost then do it, no reason why not to for the sake of a couple of quid. Although I've got a feeling it'll be the next owner rather than you that gets the benefit out of its extended longeivity. If it was me I'd fit the 2.0 clutch though, same as on the JTD it needed a new clutch due to wear, but I still fitted an uprated one. If a job needs doing, may as well do the job as best you can. Alfa might have made the 1.8 clutch a bit cheaper to save pennies, at the expense of longeivity.
