3.2 spider remap
I've found a group in Australia here who say they can flash the ecu on a 07 spider to give 344 nm of torque, and 204 KW. Anyone done a spider or brera to this before, and if so, what kind of results?
ps:
It's my first post!

Re: 3.2 spider remap
Be very careful about performance gains, the group you refer to in Australia state their increase on a 3.2 JTS having 114kw at the wheels before and 126kws after,my 3.2JTS made 128kws in standard form on the same type of dyno, only it was in shootout mode that can't be fudged by the dyno operator.Always do a before and after test with an independent dyno so you can see the gain, don't trust anyone.

Re: 3.2 spider remap
Powerchip have identical figurers, that is who I assumed you were referring to, are you sure they are not using the same product as powerchip? The Autodelta remap is the one I would recommend. Automoda at Five Dock will be doing it early this year. However, I can highly recommend getting high flow twin cats to replace the standard cats that are already on the car. I did this and it has transformed the car. I had an independent dyno test and it increased the power by 13 engine kilowatts. The car now feels as if the hand break has been released. I was amazed at the difference. Later in the year I plan to get the Autodelta remap, however, I will be doing a before and after dyno test to make sure I am not wasting my money.

Yikes!
they're a long a wasy away...I'm in Brissie
As an inexperienced car tuner, how much did your mod cost, and is it doable by me? Or is a mechanic a worthwhile idea?

Re: 3.2 spider remap
wolfman, any mechanic or exhaust center could do the cats, they are about A$1500 from Hi Tech mufflers in Darlinghurst and the man to speak to is Lambros he would be able to organise someone to fit them for you I am sure.Make sure you keep your old ones though.I think the Euro3 emission must have something to do with why the origional cats are so restrictive because the free flow cats make the car sound and go like we expect an Alfa 3.2 to perform.

Re: 3.2 spider remap
surely that would play havoc with warranty/insurance though?

Re: 3.2 spider remap
Insurance no,warranty of course, but so would any remap,if you have a warranty issue you can always put the old cats back on.But if you are worried about warranty why were you interested in a remap?

Re: 3.2 spider remap
wolfman,I have not timed 0-60 but maybe half a second faster, the engine power with supersprint exhaust and twin cats is now 210 kws,up from 191kw,expensive but looks great, sounds great and transforms the car it is no longer sluggish and has instant throttle response and now pulls like a train.

Re: 3.2 spider remap
Hey Kanga,
I know Lambros well. He replaced my Pug 406 exhaust system a few years ago. good bloke. crappy rally driver . What did he charge for the CATs? did you go the rest of the system or just the CATs?
Cheers,
Tim

Re: 3.2 spider remap
Tim,$1500 fitted and no I only got the cats from him, they made the biggest difference, but they will be different than cats for a GTA,I mean they may not change the power output as much on a GTA so I would check or do a before and after dyno check to make sure you are not wasting your money.

He uses CATCO CATS, so the actual parts will probably be the same, just the piping will be slightly different. Did you pay cash?

Re: 3.2 spider remap
Tim,I paid by credit card. The cats are the same however I think the cats (original) on the 159 3.2 maybe extra restrictive because the engines have to meet the euro3 emission laws and that is why the improvement is so great when the high flow cats are put on.The guy at the dyno place was stunned at the improvement and he does tunning on Range Rovers etc, before hand he thought there would only be a small improvement.

The reason i ask about payment is Lambros can be fairly easy on cost. he once gave me a $300 muffler for $150. I understand the OEM CAT issue. i'll have to call him and see what he can do.
Cheers mang.
