The PS3 was designed with upgrades in mind. Both the fat and the slim use the SATA II connection and are easily removed from the Playstation via a few screws and clip that allows you to slide the caddy across and out.
There should be no warranty stickers on the Hard Drive housing on the outside or inside of the case. Sony even had a link on the website demonstrating how to change the drives. They even allowed you to install different flavours of Linux, which was a great addition until Firmware Patch 3.xx came along and they decided to stop you doing that (Presumably, people were using 'homebrew' to crack the copy protection and pirate games)
Anyway, I digress. I have upgraded my old Fat 60Gb to 320Gb and the new slim with a 500GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue. Ideal if you have Play TV and want to keep various TV series stored.
