Water damaged Iphone 4 - worth anything?

My wife dropped her Iphone 4 (16GB) into water and it is dead as a dodo. We sent it off to a company called mobileease for diagnosis, but they could not repair it economically.

Question: What do we do with it? No phone insurance, and house insurance won't cover it.

Does it have any value?

My friends Iphone stared playing up a while ago and she jad to go to a special Apple repairer, turned out they couldn't repair it but did offer a replacement and they would do al the setting up etc, moving all data from old phone to new etc. I'll try and get details.

The problem with the iPhone is that the sealed-in battery design
means you can't yank it to protect the device from damage when it gets wet.

Depends what has fried, but probably: Bin it.

Might stick it on ebay to see if anyone wants it then. She now has my old ancient Nokia! That'll teach her!

Bravo for the eBay deal. You can take them to an Apple store and ask for " out of warranty repair ". £ 149 later you will have a " new " iPhone don't ask how I know

Yup Apple do offer the non-advertised out of warranty repair (at the managers discretion). They have probably popped the new one from Apple back up on ebay for £350 - 380

Still £150 for a dead phone can't be bad

You phone's ID, the guts from a nicked phone. Modern day ringing. Sad but true

Hmm. So you pay £149 to Apple, and do they repair it or replace it? I wouldn't want a repaired one (I had my Blackberry repaired after a dunking a few years back and it lasted about a month before various bits packed in - wifi, speaker and trackball).

Mobileease who looked at this one for repair said it was not worth doing, due to the likely continued failure of parts in the near future.

Feel sorry for anyone buying a repaired one on Ebay for £300+, when they will probably fail in a short time.

If DOA it is replaced. Normally with a refurb with guarantee , you can get AppleCare for it . Though it appears AppleCare + is US only . As Vincent says It will probably appear on eBay " unwanted / unused upgrade "

Swapping "the guts" of a stolen phone won't do anything.
It's IMEI will still be that of a stolen one.

Maybe reprogramming the stolen one with the broken IMEI,
but that's not as straight-forward for your average joe.

Check out the Samsung Galaxy Pro if you want Angry Birds...
(Looks like a classic BB but with a touch screen.)
