HP Photosmart wireless printer B209a - HELP

We have one of these and it was working perfectly. We also had a BT Homehub wireless router (original) which started playing up so have replaced it with v3 - everything connects perfectly except the printer.

On the printer itself when you go into setup/wireless it says there is no signal. I have moved it to within a few feet of the hub but no joy.

When I try to configure it via USB to either Mac the installer cannot find the printer. I have used the original installation disc and downloaded a copy from the HP website - same message - no device detected.

I have uninstalled the HP software from the Mac(s) and returned the printer to factory settings - still no joy with the installer(s).

This is the limit of my knowledge so if I am missing something obvious please feel free to laughingly point it out to me.

Cheers,

Paul.

Sorry to suggest this but have you got anything MS based to try it on?

Sounds like it may have had its day if it won't detect wired or wirelessly, especially after a factory reset.

Must be the time if year, ive just a few minutes ago installed a new router here so will be attempting to get my photos art to work with it via USB

Should be fun.

It sounds like yours is knocked though Paul, if it doesn't work hooking up directly with USB then there's something fairly fundamentally wrong.

Gave up with the router printer server and fished
out the bluetooth card 'n' driver disk instead.

Sorry Paul.

Thanks for the input thus far guys.

On the plus side - perhaps I am not completely stupid.

On the minus side we are stuck with a 13 month old printer (yep 1 month out of warranty) which is a doorstop.

My only doubt is that it worked perfectly when I disconnected the old router (which worked sporadically) but died as soon as I connected the new one. A bit of a co-incidence. I did try the old router and, when it worked, got the same result i.e nada.

GRRRRRRR - this is the 5th printer we've had in as many years and they have all packed up in stupid amounts of time.

Liz is onto the HP forums as I post so maybe we'll get something from there.

Only a month outside warranty, I'd be tempted to contact the manufacturer or supplier and see if they're willing to be reasonable.

If I'd have kept the receipt I'd do it

My Alfa experience with a cambelt failure at 41k when the recommendation then was still 72k and a month out of warranty - 18 months of argument to no avail- has clouded my expectations somewhat.

No - we are still on 10.5.8 - which is compatible with the installer.
