iOS5
Do Apple release instruction manuals with their new software?
Thought this thread could be used to share impressions and findings.
The double-tap of home button when locked to get at camera or music quicker is an excellent idea.
The ability to have multiple photo folders instead of just one is long overdue, as is using the volume control to take a photo. Since they were using one of them though, would have seemed sensible to use the other or another camera function - flash on and off maybe.
Photo cloud - from the description, I expected newly taken photos to appear on my iTunes on the PC. Doesn't seem to have happened though.
I don't quite get how to use the focus and exposure lock, and what it really does.
What does the reminders app add that the calendar app didn't?

To answer one of my own questions, for the cloud stuff to work, you need a Cloud control panel installed on the PC, not just iTunes.

Ah, that's good to know!
Had a bit of hassle restoring the backup, and it looks like I need to re-do all my connections/email settings

Was told about some slight hiccups with iOS5 and migrating over info data.

You need to use the settings menu notifications and iCloud to customise them. Somehow I had no contacts in address book on either phone or iPad Sorted by doing a sync to iTunes, it then appeared in iCloud

the reminder app uses the gps function.
for example, you have asigned an adress for your home. then you set a reminder: "remember to put gas in the Alfa". it asks you when, you say when i leave home. then when you leave home, like 200m, you will get the reminder on screen.
that in case you forget to put gas in ur car!

Just seen that myself - can see how that might come in useful.
A slightly off-topic question, but not worthy of its own thread:
When using the iPhone through Blue & Me, how do you hang up? The esc button just puts it on hold. Do you have to hold it down or something?

I've updated both my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2
First impressions are.
iPhone 4
Battery life appalling but I have got everything set up, so need to look at switching some of the none essentials off. Call quality is appalling, echoes abundant, very little gain, almost like talking to someone on VoIP with constrained bandwidth
Upgrade went fine and settings from some apps I had on my iPad have been migrated to the iPhone when I put them on there which is good, must have to hope that when I put infinity blade on the iPad which was on the iPhone it will still have all my game data, it's supposed to just work, but through my own fault and hang different devices synced with different machines I have lost data in the past.
A lot of people have commented elsewhere On the net that the cloud stuff seems to be quite low key, well this is ow it should be, cloud aware apps should work with very little user intervention in my opinion. Looking forward to the photos I take n my iPhone automagically syncing to my iPad though, all the other stuff like email contacts etc I get from my work exchange server.
iPad
So far so good, battery life seems no different, welcome addition of tabs to safari however I have found that sometimes links opened in new tabs do not load, sure this will be some thing fixed in a coming update though.
Have to see how things go but all in not the worst update ive had on a device.

Ghosty hit reload it seems to then load the new tab ( sometimes several times )
Love the reader bit , removes all the cr* p
Remember if you want wi-fi syncing you have to enable it.

Sort of , though sometimes takes a time to be updated , on the first bookmarks screen scroll to the bottom iPhone / iPad user guide. Or go the Apple support site for the full fat version

Doesn't work, the workaround I've found is to tap and hold for the context menu that says open in new tab.
Reader is nice, as you say, cuts up all the rubbish and delivers the content you want to see.

I hate the fact mine dropped my apps folders so I had to re sort them 91 apps! didn't realise I had that many
On backup it did decide to delete 40 apps roughly some of which I had paid for lucky on my other computer it had them backed up there which was lucky I suppose.
But my main concern is my satnav app doesn't work anymore Only got it this morning too

Brad, in iTunes either go to prefs / devices and choose a backup with the apps in, hopefully the one you did before updating or right click on the device name and hit restore from backup.
Good luck

Brad, did you make sure you selected "transfer purchases" in iTunes before doing a back up?
Sean, weird about your battery and call quality issue call quality doesn't seem to have been effected on mine but I think my battery life is actually slightly better!
Maybe you have a rogue app that requires an update?

Love notifications and icloud so far
Notifications pane is nice too. Reader is good, been using that on the mac for a while. The camera is so much quicker to boot up now and I like the grid lines function
iMessage is brilliant!! Find my friends was good the other day to locate a mate in London, but I have turned it off now because I think it's a bit scary /stalker style

Yeah, but after doing the backup it said deleting "app name here" in iTunes, it was weird, thought it was only doing it for the install, but it didn't put them back!

Brad navigate to user / music / iTunes / mobile applications , they should be in there .
If not don't empty trash and look in there.
