Repair of roundtail bootlid

My 1968 roundtail Spider has a case of rot on the lower edge of the bootlid, luckily 10" patch panels (inner & outer) are available from the usual suspects. Is there any difference in panel quality that I should be looking for? Or are they much of a muchness - it isn't a load bearing part after all.

How much is a reasonable estimate for the repair work? I've been quoted £200 for the labour and paint etc, if I supply the panels. He's a local guy, semi-retired now but with 50 odd years of car workshop experience. Seemed to know his stuff when he talked me through the work he would be doing.

Re: Repair of roundtail bootlid

I think the bits the usual suspects get all come from the same sources anyway! One of them used to supply something like "Budget panels if you are really desperate" and "Quality panels if you want them to fit".

As a generalisation the German made parts seem to be the better ones. I bought a rear valance repair panel from Highwood and it fitted very well and Chris sent it next day straight to the bodyshop so it couldn't have been easier!

Would it be possible to view a picture or two of your machine? Restoration is a fascinating, and very rewarding occupation, where one can express unlimited enthusiasm imo.:
