Buying a Giulia GT junior step front

Gents,

I am in the process of buying at step front from a chap in South Africa (as per the pic on my profile)

Being a newbie I need some help please. How can I verify that the engine is indeed a 1300?

Engine number is AR0053013749. Is that correct. VIN is AR1292565.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Henk

Hi Henk
You can send the chassis number to ArchivioStorico@alfaromeo.com and they will tell you what they can about the car.

The engines can be identified by a series of hieroglyphics on the casting as illustrated here:

Alfa Romeo Australian model identification

Cheers

Great, got an answer back from Alfa factory.

Car was built on 30 Oct 1969 and sold to a AR dealer in Johannesburg on 01 December 1969.

All checks out so far!

Great stuff. It's a nice thing to have.

Mine tied up too but I'm sure they have to let some people know that their red GTA is actually a brown California spec automatic!!

The first five characters after AR is the engine type number. Engine type 00530 is a 1300cc engine fitted to, among others, the Giulia GT Junior.

A way to tell the basic engine size without having to remember engine type numbers or cylinder head symbols, is to look at the distance between the top of the waterpump and the bottom of the cylinder head. On a 1300, the bottom of the head is in line with the top of the waterpump. On a 1600 engine, the bottom of the head is 25mm above the waterpump and for the 1750 & 2000 engines, the distance is 40mm.
