Spider S4 Electric Window regulator

Hi,

I need to replace the cable on the window regulator - has anyone done this?

I am having trouble finding something suitable to clamp the end of the cable to stop it coming out the reel.

Is it new regulator time? ££££!

Not sure what you mean by it coming out of the reel? Can you describe in more detail as to what is happening, ie window stuck, not going down or up etc. I have fixed and replaced the motors plus regulators on mine and its not a difficult job but a right pain to set them up right.

Re: Spider S4 Electric Window regulator

The window was moving very slowly, when I took it apart I noticed the cable was kinked.

I want to replace the cable, but it is held in the reel with somesort of crimp on each end of the cable.

So to replace the cable I need to find a way of crimping the end of the new cable to keep it from coming out the reel.

Thanks for the reply

Andy

Re: Spider S4 Electric Window regulator

OK understand. First make sure that you photograph or have a diagram of the cable layout in the door for re assembly. Also familiarise yourself with how the cable is attached to the window and how the cable tensioner/adjuster works. You can buy a whole new regulator and motor from the usual Alfa sources but they ain’t cheap! Your other option is to go down to a decent bicycle shop and buy some bike brake cable plus the crimps and tool to attach the cable with (take the old cable with you to compare number of strands). I did my passenger door this way and it’s still fine. If you find the motor is slow before you change it out clean all the electrical contacts and the window switch. Also lubricate the runners in the door window frame. If it’s still slow you may need new motor. These come up second hand on EBay USA. The motors will fit either side but the regulators will not (the motor is detachable from the regulator). If you need any other help just let me know. Good Luck!
