Boring Duetto Dunlop Brakes

Hello from ALFRO. I have a 1968 Duetto that needs some work. To start the Dunlop brakes are pretty much non existant. Pedal is rock hard with minimal stopping power. Not sure how to proceed. Just bleed or consider an upgrade to something more dependable. There is no booster circuit in the system nor does it appear to have a proportioning valve. The master cylinder is a 3/4 or 7/8 diameter (Bonaldi ?) fed from a gravity reservois. Want to drive but it seems somewhat suicidal without reliable braking. Please advise with suggestions. Thanks

Re: Duetto Dunlop Brakes

Welcome ALFRO!
Brakes seem rather a sticking point (no pun intended) with our old Alfas. It sounds to me like your master cylinder could be seizing. If you had a servo (or booster) I would have said that it was that causing the rock hard pedal. Do your brakes drag or get hot when you drive? If so I guess your brakes could be getting hot and then gradually stop working and feeling rock hard as you have exhausted your leg-pushing power.

The Alfa Owners Club Website is a great source for 105 series owners. After having my car off the road for the whole summer with braking problems the forum has been indispensible!

Good luck with your brakes!

Re: Duetto Dunlop Brakes

Doesn't the Duetto have ATS brakes rather than Dunlops??.
Doesn't answer your question though, Phill's right, try AROC forum for this sort of stuff
