Does anyone recognise this?

I have this screen in my garage that I need to identify so that I can find a good home for it.

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d9...y/DSCF0360.jpg

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d9...y/DSCF0357.jpg

I was told it was a type 14 Ghia rear screen, but apparently it isn't. I am told the Ghia only had two bits of trim with two connecting pieces in the centre of the screen whereas this one has four bits of trim and four connectors near the corner (although one is missing).

The chrome is all there and reasonable - it would polish up ok, but with some pitting. One of the four trim clips is missing.

The screen is approx 134 cm long and 51 cm tall. On its side as it is, the front edge is 53 cm off the floor and the top edge is 12.5 cm off the floor.

The glass is marked 'Duro-Glas D-01/AS2' I have done a search on Google and established this could be original VW/Porsche glass, but not what it is out of.

The four trim clips are set about 4-6 inches in from the corners and hold the four trim bits together (2 long radius curves and 2 shorter curves).

I got it from Germany from a body shop that converted a Type 34 to a convertible and therefore had a Type 34 heated rear screen to dispose of (some 10 years down the line) so I got the two together. I actually got it from the Type 34 owner rather than the shop, so he does not know what the other screen came from and my German isn't good enough to interrogate him further - all previous attempts have drawn a blank.

Can anyone identify it?

Does anyone want to make me an offer I can't refuse? The rubber is only good for protecting the edges of the screen these days - not for making a car water tight.

It has been suggested it may be Alfa.

Welcome to AO.

Not much help here but in the USA, the AS2 designates a rear windscreen. AS1 is the front. It is not from an Alfa Bertone GT but maybe from a saloon.

Hey, at least we are getting somewhere - we know it is probably a rear screen - that would make sense, given the stickers on the screen - it does look more like a rear.

Now who has a saloon we can compare it to?

Cheers,

Dave

Definitely not from a Giulia Super, keep narrowing it down!

Re: Does anyone recognise this?

Is it from a Spider removable hard top? I can't quite remember what they look like, but doesn't the rear screen wrap around to the sides slightly as with the screen in question?

Does anyone have a Spyder removeable hard top to compare it to please?

Another suggestion is a GTV Bertone - does anyone know of one of those out there to compare it to?

Yet another suggestion is an Alfa Romeo Junior Bertone.

Any more thoughts?

Cheers,

Dave

It doesn't look like a factory hardtop as the curve around the side would be almost triangular (more glass bends round at the bottom than the top). It also isn't like my non-OEM hardtop either. The curve around the side isn't so pronounced as the factory hardtop but still somewhat triangular in shape.

Sorry.

Well at least it is narrowing it down - I'll find a good home for it if it's the last thing I do!

Cheers.

Re: Does anyone recognise this?

Had a peek in a few parts books and can confirm what it isn't for;

Giulia TI
Giulia TI Super
1750 Berlina
2000 Berlina
All models and variants of the Bertone Coupe ie GT, GT Jr, GTA, GTV, 1750 & 2000 (the rear glass on these cars does not have trim on the glass).

Thanks for that info Papajam: That seems to have ruled out all the suggestions thus far.

I am therefore at the stage where it would appear to be a rear screen - probably from a hard top vehicle that was converted to a cabriolet. Is there anyhting else in the code on the glass 'Duro-Glas D-01/AS2' that could narrow it down to a model or manufacturer? This eBay ad: http://cgi.ebay.at/1-Paar-hintere-Se...mZ110180679627 has similar code, but the glass is very different. Are Duro-glas and Sekurit the same firm?

Cheers,

Dave
