what kind of fuel?

In case I have both Super LRP fuel and Unleaded 95-100 octane fuel, which one will be proper for my 105's cars. Is the Super LRP like the old good leaded gas?

Re: what kind of fuel?

After previous experience I would steer well clear of LRP. It destroyed my sisters 2CV engine (no laughing at the back) and made my old Jag run poorly and continually foul its plugs (all 12 of them ).

You are much better off with good quality unleaded. Go for a name brand not supermarket (although I think Tescos do a high octane unleaded now). The choice of regular vs super or premium is probably going to be influenced by engine tuning - you will have to adjust the ignition timing to get the best out of each grade. I've found that the higher grade fuel tends to be slightly more economical which offsets the extra cost somewhat.

There are also some garages still selling proper 4 star, leaded fuel. More info here: http://www.leadedpetrol.co.uk/

Re: what kind of fuel?

I tend to run mine on super unleaded 98 octane, with a dash of Millers VSP Octane booster. If I can get it I will use Shell V Power, but miss out the Booster.
If I'm pushed I will use ordinary 95 RON fuel, but add a bit more of the VSP.

I've used the genuine 4 star a few times and to be honest apart from the hole in my wallet I didn't notice a differance, I was once told that the lead content, which amongst other things gives it the Octane rating, is actually much lower than 4 star of old, so it's not all its cracked up to be. Alfa engines don't need lead, just Octane, so stick to good quality super unleaded.

Re: what kind of fuel?

thanks all of you! In Greece it is so easy to get the V Power, while the 98 Unleaded is a rare. In Cyprus the Super LRP doesn't exist but 98 Unleaded is a common. So, I guess no problem for me. Despite this, it is so fun to drive one month LHD and the other RHD. The only problem I was faced with the old Alfas ( in RHD) was the place of the steering box, just under the carb's bowl!

Have a look from a very good coupe found in Larnaca Cyprus. It is a 1300 junior. I took a short drive and I was completly amazed! It wasn't like new, it was really new. So smooth in driving and so toleranced in everything. After all, it's trans was from another planet. And the car was completly stock, just a nice new paint on.
