Fitting Spider Door Seals

Am in the process of replacing all rotting rubber on a 77 2000 Spider. Boot seal was easy enough, and door seals went on OK as well. However, now the driver's door will not seat properly - Passenger side seats fine, although with slightly more effort (as expected) - but driver's side stands well-proud, even with a substantial shove. It latches OK, but stands proud of bodywork at both front and rear of door.
Any thoughts as to where to begin to adjust the door to get a proper fit ? I am loathe to start loosening hinges and strike, etc, for fear of getting it all wrong and making things even worse !
A further note, car also recently had new interior door cards fitted, which went on with no difficulty.
Any suggestions appreciated...

Re: Fitting Spider Door Seals

Has your car had some body renovation in the past? Could it be that the door has perhaps been removed at some time, and then refitted to suit the same (ie original), slightly worn seal? If so, it could be that you will have to adjust to suit the new seal.
Make sure the new seal isn't getting trapped along the hinge end of the door. This happened on mine but seems ok now with minor alteration. It was getting trapped between the door edge and the 'A' post instead of just between the door edge and the door aperture.

Re: Fitting Spider Door Seals

Happily, the problem seems to be 90% solved. The new interior door panels have a rolled piping around their perimeters. The driver's side panel had piping that hung down more than it should, along the lower edge, and this snagged on the door seal, forcing it out of position. I trimmed off this piping, and re-positioned the interior panel slightly higher on the door. Now, all I need to do is get new door strike bolts, so I can adjust the door strike on that side, and get a perfect closure. Thanks for the hints.
