You live and learn!!

oil leak!!!

A question to those who are into engines.

Is it safe to take the car on a long journey or am I risking causing more damage? I have an 8 hour journey to do this weekend.

The car starts and drives as normal.....the oil appears to be leaking from the sump so I am thinking it's blown a gasket?

Re: You live and learn!!

If it is truly only a leak from the sump gasket then you may be able to proceed but do so with *extreme caution*. The sump shouldn't be under pressure so it will not spurt out but a steady drip can loose you a lot in 8 hours so keep checking!

Are you 100% certain that is the cause?

Re: You live and learn!!

Is it coming from underneath?, or around the head gasket, in anycase its best ot get it sorted asap as it could start leaking more as your driving, then your left stranded with a seized engine eek!

If it's just leaking Oil (and not at an alarming rate) you should be OK as long as you check the level regulary !!
