Re: Steering Column Lock on 1975 GT Jnr 1.6
Assuming that the Junior is the same as a 1750/2l, there is but a single bolt that retains the ignition switch. This bolt is on the top of the switch and is accessed by removing the upper and lower plastic steering column covers. The head of the bolt will appear as a round button quite similar to a carriage bolt. This is a security bolt that when installed, the hex head portion of the bolt is designed to break off leaving just the button. So it doesn't look like a bolt at all when installed.
One method of removal is to use a sharp, pointed punch. Place the punch off bolt center and tap anti-clockwise. If that doesn't work, a small Dremel type tool can be used to cut a slot into the button where a flatblade screwdriver can now remove the bolt.
If you new switch does not come with a new security bolt, a regular 6x1.0 hex head bolt will work. I think the length is about 15mm.
A few words of caution. If the steering column is removed from the box, the box will need to be removed for reassembly. So don't remove it! When installing the steering column support, ensure that the spacers go back in their original locations. If they don't, the steering column alignment will be off which will stress the steering box leading the box cracking. If you'd like the Alfa issued steering column alignment procedure, please PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.
