Retro Fitting a kenlowe fan to my 1750

Has anyone done this? If so I was wondering if you could give me some advice.

I've had my rad re-cored to a three core, I've had them install the threaded hole for where the sensor goes, which will control the speed of the kenlowe fan.

I need to know where I get one of these sensors, probably out of an alfa 75. Also what size fan to fit

all help welcomed. thank you in advance.

RICK..... Help the man

Mr Ricksalfas and myself are both embroiled in this at the moment, but as Rick is acting as technical researcher and purchaser by proxy for it, I will let him advise you where we are at.

I'm sure he will be along soon enough

Re: Retro Fitting a kenlowe fan to my 1750

I fitted a Kenlowe fan to my MG idget last summer.

Why not contack Kenlowe direct, I found them really helpful.

The fan you get will come with all necessary sensors etc.

Do make sure you secure the switch though - I didn't and the first time I used the car the fan didn't come on as the temperature switch had moved

Re: Retro Fitting a kenlowe fan to my 1750

Hello

Kenlowe recommend a 13" blower fan i.e. one which sits in front of the radiator. They call it a 13.B.

However Mitch and I feel this is not the best place for it. There's not a huge amount of room in there and it does restrict natural air flow to the radiator when the fan is not working. It's also restrictive for maintenance if the fan ever needs it.
So, me and Mitch are going for a sucker fan that fits on the back of the radiator and sucks air through the radiator. We've gone for a 12" curved blade one (off Ebay!) that shifts more air than the Kenlowe 13" one (1170CFM at zero resistance). There are plenty of fans available in the aftermarket from companies like Spal and Pacet. Switches you can get from your local motor factor, or somewhere like
http://www.carbuildersolutions.co.uk/cooling_fans.htm
or
http://www.x-eng.co.uk/X-ThermData.asp

Most modern fans now fit through the cores using some glorified cable tie things so they are fairly easy to fit as long as you have measured up correctly.

Unless you are very nervous about overheating and/or electrical failure your old plastic fan needs to come off - I think it's 6 bolts into the water pump pulley.

Can't think of much else.

If you are going to stick with Kenlowe, they are very helpful and you can deal with them direct at www.kenlowe.com .
Good luck!
