I had heard of the Alfa Six though I have never seen one on the road. Was it the first car to have the Alfa V6 engine which was used in the 147/156 GTA models? Can anyone confirm this?

Also autojumbles are good for anything like that.

I nearly bought one in the early eighties. Very few sold, one on ebay a few months ago.

Yes, that’s true, same basics until the lance of the 159 V6 3,2 (which is a GM/Holden derived engine ).
In early Alfa 6’s they were fitted with an orchestra of 3 double Webers, probably a pig to balance. This was replaced by Bosch Jetronic injection. Didn’t help sales, thou .

Inside was a letter to a customer dated 4-4-81 from a dealer called Alwyn Kershaw

I have an early (series 1) Alfa6 engine, and several sets of spare carbs, and they are all 3 barrel Dellorto carbs. So, the engine has two 3 barrel carbs.
The only balancing one can do is between the two carbs. Easy.

And unfortunatley A lwyn kershaw is no longer with us

He isn't unfortunately but his Garage clings to life.... just I'm not sure I trust them anymore though

My feeling is they have lost all the mechanics who knew anything about the older Alfa's.
As for the newer one's JJB in York are getting a good reputation and one of the ex Kershaw guys who knew a bit about the older ones has set up near Selby, though I know nothing of his abilities.

Kershaws never recovered from the fire which destroyed three quarters of the repair shop most of the specialist Alfa tools along with a few valuable cars. When Peter retired about six months later he was the last of the old school mechanics. I rang them up and asked how much to swap a gearbox on my 1750, they hadn't a clue, never done one before

I dont know where you are from mitch but THE best alfa Mechanic around here is Wyn Lear at keighley apprenticed trained alfa mechanic from the late sixties and is a proper moter engineer.I tend to do a lot of my own stuff but if it gets techi then wyns the man.I think hes still around but ive not been there for a while

ps if you want anything doin on youre 1750 he was brought up on them

Yes I know about Wynn, he's one of the best around, ex Autodelta race mechanic too.
Trouble is he's moving to New Zealand early next year as far as I understand

I haven't had the chance to use Wynn's services but I know RicksAlfa's has, in fact he's hard at work at the moment on Ricks 1750
