Giulia GTV inner rear wings

Hi
Does anyone know how to fit inner rear wings to a Giulia GTV 1600?
Was looking at a car last week that doesn't appear to have any!

Re: Giulia GTV inner rear wings

Not sure I understand the question but I'm going to be fitting inner wings to my rather sad looking track car

http://uk.geocities.com/rmerrell%40b...com/crash.html

Complete inner wings (the outer part at least) are about £120 each. They are spot welded both to the arch and to the inner section.

Ouch! At least you seem very philosophical about the shunt.

Re: Giulia GTV inner rear wings

I have been thinking about this and it could just be the inner rear arches that were missing. I have only started hunting for one of these cars a few months ago. When I was feeling around in the rear arches on this particular car, my hand went all the way inside the wing! There was no evidence of rust so I presume some rear arch work has been carried out on the car and just not finished off
Any advice as to how easy this would be to fix and whether it should put me off buying the car?
thanks

Re: Giulia GTV inner rear wings

Jools, do you mean the area behind the Wheel?. On the offside there is a gap right up behind the wing between it and the spare wheel well, where you can get your hand in right up to the boot floor. There should be an iner wing, but it is only an inch or so from the outer one and I don't think it does much. I missed mine off when I had it rebuilt at the back. I bet meanie has too???, more weight for no reason.

On the NS there isn't one either but the tank gets in the way and you can't get your hand up.

Re: Giulia GTV inner rear wings

Thanks Mitch

I am pretty sure it was right above the wheel though, pretty much directly in line with the axle. I looked at alfaholics picture of an inner rear arch and that looked like the panel that was missing. I know these cars are weak at the back end anyway, so I suppose it doesn't matter much. It will be an ongoing project anyway, probably like most 105's!!

If it's in line with the axle I really wouldn't want to loose metal from there,t hat bit is important.

Re: Giulia GTV inner rear wings

Hi

I should be picking it up next saturday, finally found some garage space for her!

I spoke to the seller again and he has assured me that the inner wheel arches are all present and correct, so maybe it was me just being paranoid!

We will see in a weeks time!

Re: Giulia GTV inner rear wings

Well got her yesterday. Drove all the way from Beckenham to Manchester, no problems (apart from feeling a bit sick from the weber fumes!)
Took her out again today. Unfortunately it rained yesterday and today, so dried her off and back in the garage now
Just spent over £300 online at classic alfa too, girlfriend is not happy!
The money pit!
does anyone have a oil catch tank fitted?
She blew a bit of oil out of the breather, not much, but I thought a little catch tank might be an idea

No, but this pic gives you an idea of a typical installation:

http://www.classicalfa.com/cars/1966%20GTA%20rep.jpg

Or you can squeeze one in down behind the offside headlight like this:

http://www.alfaholics.com/admin/uplo...942bfcbaa3.jpg

I've turned the breather elbow on the rocker cover round 180 degrees and then run some hose down into the front valance area with a little K&N on it to try and keep any fumes away from the cabin, but they all do seem to get a bit fumey.

Opening the rear windows can help!

Was she a bit full do you think?

Re: Giulia GTV inner rear wings

I don't think there was too much oil in her. The dipstick was showing between min and half, so it wasn't overfilling that was the problem. I was driving for 4-5 hours though and I think that is probably the longest drive she's had for a long time.
Does anyone know what the oil pressure should be? The gauge was showing just above half all the way home. My brother was following me and said there was a tiny bit of blue smoke when I finally got the courage up to put my foot down!
Valve stem seals or piston rings? Not sure
Need to swap the gearbox over now with the reconditioned one I got, overhaul the starter motor, oil change for engine, 'box, and axle, clean the air filters and have a look at the carbs.....

Bit tricky as the gauges are crap!

However, it should show a high reading when cold or belting along, half or above when cruising and "something" when at hot idle. What's most important is that it moves and shows some variation rather than the actual figures it reads. Decent oil changed regularly is the best thing. It's better to put some OK oil in and change it regulalry than some superduper stuff and only change it every two years. The carbs tend to tip quite a bit of fuel in and what doesn't get burned ends up in the sump and contaminates the oil. It's common on old big carb'd motors.

Typically, blue smoke on acceleration is rings; blue smoke on decel (or on accel after a decel), is valve guides/seals. If it's just a tiny bit of smoke, I wouldn't worry about it (unless your emission laws say otherwise). Have you done a dry/wet compression test?
