Re: It's a sad day but....

Eric,

Yes I love the car and its been a very difficult decision to make to let it go. I have been deliberating for the last three years and now it's time.

If I tell you a little of the story.....

It had been my ambition to own a Montreal since I was 14 but it was an ambition I was sure I would never achieve.

In November 1999 my brother died. He was 38 and his death was very sudden and unexpected. It came as a great shock to all my family as he was so healthy. If either he or I were to go, then you would have expected it to be me...heavy drinker, heavy smoker etc etc

My brother had asked me years ago to be his executor and I had agreed, assuming that it was extremely unlikely that I would ever have to carry out the role. I was the elder brother after all. I discovered upon reading the will that he had left a fair portion of his estate to me.

As a result I was able to achieve my ambition and buy my Montreal. Whilst this initially made me happy, as time passed I have found it more and more difficult to live with the fact that I lost something far more precious in order to achieve that ambition.

I am sure that Paul would have been very happy to see me drive the car as he had always known how important it was to me. And this has been a large part of my consideration whilst trying to come to terms with my decision.

But in the end I have decided to let it go. I'm sure he would understand. After all, I did achieve it and I have owned the car for nearly five years.

It is now sold and the new owner is coming to collect it tomorrow evening. I'm sure he will enjoy it.

For me though it proved more than I could deal with. It never ever could fill the gaping hole in my life left by my brother who was my best friend and was taken from us far too soon.

Thank you Paul for helping me to achieve my ambition but I miss you far more than I will ever miss the car.

I'm not sure. I'll ask him tonight and if not, I'll point him in the right direction

Re: It's a sad day but....

Gibbo, I understand completely, and I am very sorry for your loss. Early last year my beloved aunt died an left her whole estate to me, including her brand new Merc C200. I sold the car immediately as I could not bare the though of driving her car. My parents sold their house at my request and moved into the house I inherited, as I do not want tennants or anyone else destroying this part of my memories as well.

Like you said, your brother knew your dream and I am sure he would have approved...... who could not love such a beautiful car.

Best of luck, maybe you get another chance to own another dream car, this time whith much happier circumstances.

Re: It's a sad day but....

Thank you Eric.

Well, the car was collected last night. I hope the new owner enjoys it, I'm sure he will.

Now I am thinking about a Giulia Super or maybe a Spider.......
