gtv engine transplants?

Hi all,
Im thinking of buying a 1750 gtv guilia and was wondering if that particular car will take a modern 2 litre twin spark or even better the 3 litre v6 from maybe an old alfa 164 or similar.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Re: gtv engine transplants?

I've read about a 2.0 transplant, think the engine was from a 75. Suppose anything can be made to fit if you chuck enough money at it....but, the 164 being FWD would cause some problems, Perhaps 3.0 from a 75 would be easier (marginally ).

Re: gtv engine transplants?

At East Riding Alfa Day last year I spent some time checking out a Guilia saloon with a Twin-Spark engine in it - have some pix if anyone interested. Difficulty of the job depends on whether you go carbs or injection, and what spec ignition system you go for apparently.

I'm definitely considering this as a replacement for the Spica injection engine in my ex-USA Spider....

or you could look at the "1991 Spider with a 164 24V V6 " thread further down the Classic Alfas page

Re: gtv engine transplants?

Saw a v6 gtv in auto italia, much work to do, cutting out front crossmember etc, see alfaholics site, i think they do alot of twinspark convs fron a 75 ts. I would leave the 1750 in, as it is the smoothest of all the old twin cams in my opinion, a joy to drive, i would just add the harvey baily handling kit from e b spares and enjoy!! ooh, and their trumpet kit for an awsome induction roar!! failing that, pick up a 75 turbo america from italy, same engine basically so should be an easy fit!

Re: gtv engine transplants?

There is a company in the States that fit V6 into the Spider...

Re: gtv engine transplants?

You can use the 2.0TS from the 75. I think it needs to be the 8v. Check out the pics on Alfaholics.com website where they've done a GTA-rep for the 21st century. Sub-zero
