Hmmm what is my Alfa GT Junior Engine spec?"

Hello I am new to this alfa restoration stuff. I need to find out specificlly what are the specs. for my engine. It has the serial number AR01500* 04875. I believe it is a North American built engine..about 1974 I also surmise that it is a 2000 or 1962 cc engine. The Body serial number is AR*1248546 and is a 105.30 style.

Is there anyplace on the net that I can get the precise stats for my engine??...I wan't to sart rebuilding it but I really need to know the specs. first...or I just may order wrong components.

Re: what is my Alfa GT Junior Engine spec?"

According to Le Vetture Di Produzione by d'Amico and Tabucchi (pg607) your chassis number is from a 1970 1300 Junior (1246009-1257114). The engine number obviously doesn't match that car but I'm struggling to find what it was in originally...any idea?

Re: what is my Alfa GT Junior Engine spec?"

Engine: From the book above (pg677) it MAY be from a USA 1977 2000 Spider type 105.24 (motore 00512), making it a 1962cc engine.

Engine numbers 0001001-0006000 (book then states type 115.02 for the engine).

PLEASE get someone to check these.....

Re: what is my Alfa GT Junior Engine spec?"

I believe you are right...the person who sold it to the otherperson who sold it to the person I bought it from did say thet the engine was originally from an ***** Spider. I wasn't really convinced though...
But it sounds right.

I shouldn't have much problems finding parts for this engine should I ??
The person said that the GT Junior engine was replaced around 1975 time frame...

Thanks for your help. If you find anymore info please let me know...I'm just starting my To-do list but was afraid to start thinking about an engine rebuild.

Thanks again for your help

Re: what is my Alfa GT Junior Engine spec?"

More info from "Tutte le Vetture Dal 1910" by Fusi, page846

chassis number AR*1248546 - also says it's a 1970 car

engine number AR01500* 04875 - the book only goes to 1972 but does seem to indicate that the engine follows the following 01500.00017-01500.03247 for 2000 Spiders (type 115.02).

So I think we can almost confirm the information

As for parts availability, I would think there'd be a problem, plenty of Spiders in the US and Toronto Spider should be able to help out with some places in Canada, he mentioned somewhere quite recently...a company that seemed to have got a fair bit of his money

Re: what is my Alfa GT Junior Engine spec?"

Bon you can check the capacity of the engine by finding the small markings cast into the block at the front just below the head gasket. I forget which symbols refer to which, but for example a triangle in a circle represents a 1750 engine. At least this way you can check if it is a 2000.
let us know what you find and I will find the referance book/web page for them. When I remember where it is.

Welcome to AO and alfa's by the way.

Re: what is my Alfa GT Junior Engine spec?"

on the front surface of the cylinder head you will find a symbol. It corresponds with the engine like this:

| = a 1300
+ = a 1600
a triangle = a 1750
a square = a 2000

Specs can be found all over the internet.

With a 2000 under the Bonnet, Somehow I think the 1300 GT Junior has grown up

Grown in size, but not in feistiness. The 1300 is the best 'pulling' nord engine around.

Madness Re: what is my Alfa GT Junior Engine spec?"

I have a square on the front cast into the engine blook. Thanks for all your help. I will try to post some reasonable pictures. The body is in great shape except for the floring it really needs some work. My transmission is also leaking. The electrical system is causing my battery to leak but I feel up to the challenge mentally but financially...I may have to get a night job.

Here are a couple of pictures that are not too great but I plan to take better pictures and post them soon. As you can see it is red..a classic colour for these cars but I am thinking about going with another colour.
Can anyone sugest a colour. I Saw a fully restored light purple 105.30 style with spoked wheels...it looked amazing...light purple can you believe it. Anyway here is my baby...an under the hood shot and the front with the garage door open...sorry about the picture quality.
