Moaning 74 spider wont start! please help

ok, I fixed the leak from the intake manifold, so it's not leaking any more antifreeze from there. It turned out to be the wrong gasket, so many thanks to everyone with the help on that. Now I have a new problem, everything was on and ready, battery was charged and then i turned the key and nothing.... all you can hear is the fuel pump. So we started messing with the wiring around the starter and we found a green wire, it comes from the ignition switch. We messed with some more wires there. then when we turned the key to "ACCESORIES" the starter turns but the soleniod doesn't activate or anything so it justspins inside the starter and never come out and engages the flywheel. Anyone know why this might be? which wires should go where? As always thanks in advance. ~Darkwing X

The best thing I can suggest is to PM papajam or head over to the AlfaBB and download the appropriate wiring diagram. Most of his diagrams are posted there and I'm pretty sure you'll find one for a '74.

Re: 74 spider wont start! please help

It sounds like there's a wire connected to the bottom large terminal on the starter solenoid where it shouldn't be. This would explain the spinning starter without the solenoid engaging (or the contacts in the solenoid are stuck closed). The starter is activated by a black (usually) wire from the ignition switch to the spade terminal on the front of the solenoid. Is your Spider a US version with Spica fuel injection or a Euro version with an added electric fuel pump?
