Re: GT 1300 Junior for sale

Sorry for the offtopic but your car is the same with the GTA1300 Junior('68-'73) because the front lookes different(yours has 4 headlights) and has "Giulia" written in front of "GT1300 Junior"? You can check http://www.alfaromeo.com/cgi-bin/pbr...3793857&page=4 to see what i really mean. I want to understand some differences between models because many of them look almost the same.

Alfaguys junior is a late model 4 headlamp flush fronted car. The GTA was what is known as a 'Stepfront' these have a slight step in front of the bonnet (hood).

The step front Cars were the original design they always had two headlamps, they were superceded by the smooth fronted cars in 68. My 1750GTV which you can see in my Avatar is the 4 headlamp smooth front type.

To complicate matters they carried on building Juniors including GTA juniors with stepfronts during the same period of time as the GTV's like mine. Eventually the Juniors (1300 and 1600 CC cars) had a smooth front 2 headlamp design, laterstill a four headlamp design with a differant grill, extarnally these late juniors were almost identical to a 2000GTV.

The rest of the body was practically identical all the time, though around about 1968, the rear wheel arches became slightly higher.

These developments were spread out of the period of 1964 right through to 1976 or so.
It's all a bit complicated!

An original GTA by the way (1.6 or 1.3), although apparently similar actually has a lightweight body with many aluminum panals, these Cars are very rare and very expensive, 60.000 to 70.000 euro's or more.
the even rarer GTAm, the four headlamp ones like the one in your link are virtually priceless, only 10 were made (I think)

Thanks Mitch for clearing up the confusion over this issue - typical for me to eventually find out two months after I sold the car.

Don't. You'll regret it forever. It will break your heart. You might as well dig a hole in the backyard and throw your money in it. It will last longer that way. Just kidding -- well sort of.

Since I don't know your local market and I'm far from a GT expert, I'll refrain from making any more comments.

Save your money and buy a Brera GTA when it arrives

More chance of it happening if you do not buy a classic Alfa Romeo

Re: GT 1300 Junior for sale

Well this Gt Junior is obviously one of the earlier ones since it has the plastic steering wheel (the later ones had a wooden wheel). The car seems to have just been restored and so seems a good buy. I am not sure about the Euro/ AU$ conversion rate but at even AU$6,000 the car is already expensive to me.

These cars are interesting classics in that they have extremely nice styling and lovely little touches everywhere but I found that over time that was just not enough because the 1300 Junior is just not a very satisfying car to drive.
The power is just not there and the handling while competent rarely brought a smile to my face. I sold it to make way for another car I always wanted - the Golf Gti - there you have a car with the power and the smile inducing handling - and it looks good too in its own tutonic way.

My Gt Junior was however very reliable and other than regular servicing never cost me a penny.

Re: GT 1300 Junior for sale

Thanks Alfaguy.
Although im not really wanting to buy one of these cars for the power or handling i do understand what you mean.I appreciate your first hand experience.
Well the price is a bit high considering it's a 1300 but the restoration looks very good so i supposed its justified.

Re: GT 1300 Junior for sale

The bodywork and interior look super - and that's 95% of the battle.

If you buy it, consider dropping a 1600 lump in (+1600 carbs). It's an easy swap and the car will be fun to drive. Keep the 1300 lump too (my guess is it'll have the paper oil filter) so you can make it original again if you ever decide to sell.

Re: GT 1300 Junior for sale

This is what my Junior is really supposed to look like.
The previous owner rebuilt his whacked-out 2000GTV into the 1300 body.

If you have the money, do it. These cars are "usable " classics, and the 1300 motor will still see off a lot of the newer small cars......

This car looks great on the pics, and very original. Their collectability is increasing every year, so your money would be quite safe if you can get it at a decent price. Have a look at the Classic car magazines, to get an idea of what people are selling these cars for, just as a reference.

Re: GT 1300 Junior for sale

Can't comment on the price as it's very regional, but the Car looks very clean and shouldn't give you much trouble. If you are prepared to get your hands dirty now and again they are not the Money pit that you might think.
Can't comment on the power of the 1300, but I would think Alfaguy might have a point. I disagree on the handling though, even in standard form it's an involving and fun car to drive, if you want to improve it with the various suspension options available these days it can be better still.

If the price is within reach and is competitive, I wouldn't hang back, go for it. You can always buy a Brera later, perhaps when the early niggles have been sorted, in the mean time you can enjoy the Junior for a while and still have the option of selling it when the Brera does come out.

Do some research on prices of other Cars though, you don't want to pay over the odds and remember out of all the Bertone's, the 1300 is the least powerfull and probably the least sought after. (This one does have the nicer interior and Grill than the later cars though).
