Sound dampening material?

Greetings!
I've been a member for a bit but this is my first post. I recently became the proud owner of a '74 1600 GTJ and am looking for some advice. I had to replace the passenger side floor pan before she was deemed road worthy, and as a result all of the original sound dampening material was removed (as well as the carpeting). Does anyone have any recommendations on what to use to replace this?

Regards,
-Raym

Re: Sound dampening material?

I have 1972 Junior and it came with Rubber mats, and some insulation type stuff a previous owner had put underneath. I had part of the floor replaced and painted it all. I now just have the rubber mats so that any water is easy to see and mop up. I don't notice it being that noisy, though the occasional stone that passes down the underside shocks sometimes. I think the usual suspects have brand new rubber mats that fit around the pedals and under the seats for sale.

Thumbs Up Re: Sound dampening material?

Hi Ryam - I have just put some carpet under the mats that was left over from the last time I got the floors in the house covered. It's easy to remove if it gets wet (mine's a Spider). It insulates to some extent the heat from the exhaust which is just under the "go" foot on a LHD version.

Thanks for the tip...I'll have to go check a few out to see what they carry.

I have to agree that the noise isn't too bad right now. I've been driving it with only rubber mats down, but I am hoping to get it back to a more original state.

I'll keep that in mind, but we really like hardwood floors ;-)

I have noticed that on longer drives my feet getting warm, but I attributed it to driving passion ;-) Do any shoe makers produce a comfortable driving sandle?
