Classic Alfas on Shell film

There was a really good film made (about 25 minutes duration) of the 1958 Alpine Rally (Coupe des Alpes), produced by the renowned Shell Film Unit. Lots of Alfas - most doing rather well! Even the camera car was a Giulietta - enthusiastically co-driven by the famous late Denis Jenkinson.

Now the bad news! Although I have a personal copy on VHS tape, I don't know whether it's commercially available any more. If someone does know, it'll be worth spreading the information around, because it really is a cracking film.

Geoff.

Re: Classic Alfas on Shell film

The second url has 1958 International Season - Girling Ltd. Wonderfully evocative colour footage taking us back to the 1958 Le Mans 24-Hours, the Alpine Rally but wouldn't appear to be the Jencks footage (some of which, apparently, was staged after the event!). But at $40 a hit, they seem a good resource.

Of course, being US DVD standard, there are not that many DVD/TV combinations here that can show them, but any computer should be able to play them and even rip and recode them so they'll play on PAL.

The small search I did suggests that the stuff from the Shell Film Unit went to the National Motor Museum. I've dropped them an email.......

Over here (the Netherlands) DVD-players do play NTSC DVD's. Some functions, like slow motion and freeze frame don't work, but watching them should not be a problem.

I hope however someone puts the video in mpg or wmv on AO
