Help engine oil for 77 Spider veloce 2000

I'm about to recommission my Spider that been lain dormant since January.
Gonna change the filter and put some fresh lube in the ol' girl before taking her over to Spa Italia for the 105 Series Spider gathering.
I'm looking for advice re suitability of synthetic's, semi syn's etc.
I've heard mixed views on Castrol Magnatec, but would like to hear from someone who may have practical experience of whats good or more importantly whats bad.
Old car........ new technology oil???
PS if it helps, it gets driven!! So I wanna give it all the protection I can.
Thanks,
Simon

Re: engine oil for 77 Spider veloce 2000

I used to put 20W50 mineral oil in my '68 Giulia (old tech oil in old tech car). My Giulia is running on LPG and the combustion temperature is too high for this oil. Result was that I was actually burning oil. I am using Agip 10W60 'Racing oil' (fully synthetic) since and I am completely satisfied with it.

Re: engine oil for 77 Spider veloce 2000

Maybe Penrite Classic HPR 30 (20W60) would be a good choice in the UK
Penrite Specialise in oils for "classic" cars of all ages and do a very good job

http://www.penrite.co.uk/
email them and ask for their recommendation

I used to use HPR40 (25W70) in my 1983 Alfetta GTV in Australia.

Re: engine oil for 77 Spider veloce 2000

I use Millers Classic Sport, 20W50. Semi synthetic.
link
It doesn't burn any and is the correct grade.
The Yorkshire section went to a very informative evening at the Millers HQ, they explained the differances between the various blends, Mineral, semi Synthetic, fully Sythetic etc.
For normal Road use they recomended normal Millers Classic Mineral oil, but if you intended to take it on a track the extra protection of the semi synthetic was not a bad idea.
Hans I would have thought 10W60, would be too thin for a Nord Engine??

Thanks for the info on the Millers product. Having read the literature, seems like the way to go, and I have a stockist close by.

Thanks again
