classic car insurance

i have just taken out a new policy with Norwich Union for my 1986 spider s3.
the cover is fully comp with breakdown cover too. (rescue & recovery)
the car is coverd for a fixed value, which inc the privet plate i have on the car. so if the car is a total loss. i am coverd for lossing the plate.
i am limeted to 3,000 miles a year (but it never goes out in the rain. so with are weather, 3,000 mile is fine....lol).
they don't use NCD for the policy. the car must be keeped in a locked garage. you need to send them photo's of the car, and a copy of the MOT.the car has to be older than 1990. and you must have a main car that you use for every day driving.
i am 36 and have a NP44 post code. the cost of the classic insurance for the spider is £216

Re: classic car insurance

Sounds good, I wanted to get my car on classic so I can buy a small car to insure and run cheaply to commute in but they said I need to wait another year!
my dads 69 spider is down to £90 p/a now but thats without plate and breakdown cover etc

Some insurers consider anything over 10 years old a "Modern Classic" which normal gets you special rates as a 2nd car.... I know Footman James do for one...

Re: classic car insurance

I rang around for the V6...9 years old Not many insurers were interested in doing modern classics from what I found, probably more money in a "normal" policy.

Re: classic car insurance

Hi, you don't say your age but I'm guessing your under 21??. If so I doubt you will get a classic policy. You also generally have to have another car insured in your name in order to have a classic policy and most state a minimum 25 year age limit for the policy holder.

Would a 155 count as a classic??, TBH I doubt it, I'm not sure what the criteria is but I would judge it needs to be older than a 155. Arguably you could cover a 155 on a limited mileage policy which maybe as cheap as a classic policy, but it all seems a bit irrelevant if you don't have a normal policy anyway.

Sorry, its not good news but it seems to me you probably have no choice but to fork out a fortune, or buy a Fiat instead.

Idea Re: classic car insurance

yeah it says that the car needs to be over 20 years old to count as a classic

i had a quote of over 6 grand for a 155

so i had a look into the alfa romeo 75 so i wonder whether it will get any cheaper but i doubt it because im only 17
