Re: spider s3 and a twinspark engine

The TS engine will slip right in. The bell housing is a straight bolt on jobbie. However you might need to rewire/replace the injection system though, but using a bit of common sense will get you far

Re: spider s3 and a twinspark engine

Yes, but lets get this straight. Were talking the old 8 valve twinspark engine here. I have seen both the fiat 16V TC turbo lump in a bertie, and the 12 valve v6 vedged into a spider. This is not easy, but fitting a TS engine into a spider or bertie is no problem. The block is the same, the head and internals (esp. pistons) are different, but that's it. Apart from the obvious double ignition system. I think you need alter the radiator and stuff like that, but generally speaking, IT can be done

Have a look on www.alfacentro.com, click on features at top of page, under April 2002 click on T.Spark Conversion manual.
Quite a detailed account of putting a 8-valve TS in an '88 Spider.

Re: spider s3 and a twinspark engine

so how hard would it be to fit a 16v TS to the spider?

Re: spider s3 and a twinspark engine

Jamie, the 16 valver have distributor less ignition system with 4 coil packs.

Making it fit will be a lot harder anyway, there'd be the problem with making a new clutch housing assembly, but it can be done. The old twinspark bolt right on, engine mounts are the same, you can buy a header that bolts right on, you can even buy a manifold so the carburettors can be bolted back on.

Then there's of course the bonnet issue . Have a look at this conversion, it looks well smart
