On the subject of Speedo's

Mine used to stick at 0 but a gentle tap on the glass usually started things swinging...Now nothing...happily stuck at Zero keeping my annual milage down.

I was thinking about fitting a new cable myself (after a few good long blasts and before the next MOT) and looked at the "workshop manual" but there's no mention of the cable at all.

How difficult is it? On a late model 1600 Junior, the 2000 look-a-like

Any advice appreciated

Re: On the subject of Speedo's

I think it's often the actual dials which conk out. They often come up on Ebay though. You could take the cable out of the back of the speedo, stick some tape on it (like a flag) and drive around. If the tape is whirling round, there's nothing wrong with the cable! I'm not sure on the 105, but the speedo cable is usually driven from the gearbox so worth looking in that section of your manual.

Re: On the subject of Speedo's

I had a look "in me book" last night.
The speedo cable exits the gearbox just above the removable gearbox mount.
It's one of the spikey bits at the back:

Not sure on the 2000 dash if you need to take the whole lot out to get to the back of the speedo. Can you stick your hand up the back past the steering column?

Nice new aquisition btw...
Thanks!

Gents, thanks very much for all the advice...time to start getting a little grime under the fingernails investigating.

That 'workshop manual' i've got really does need suplimenting....no mention of the cable in the gearbox chatper either....
