Re: Strange Rev-counter fault

We can shake hands.

Most of the time (6 out of 7 trips) the behaviour of my rev counter is the same and on some trips it works properly. So far it looks total random when he decides to work or not.

Re: Strange Rev-counter fault

This could be a bit of a wild goose chase for you but the rev counter in my S3 behaved in an erratic way until I realised that the face behind was loose and the needle slightly bent.
I tightend and straightened and now the rev counter works properly.

The tell tale sign for me was one of the 2 small screws that hold the face in place was missing.

Re: Strange Rev-counter fault

"It never goes any higher than 3000rpm, and seems to always be between 1000 & 1500 rpm short."

My Spider '91 has a similar thing going on, where it sounds like I'm revving quite hard, but actually the needle shows about 2500rpm. And if I take it to 3k, I think I'm going to do it some harm so I back off. I put it down to a dodgy needle, cos it still runs ok, and I'm not about to thrash the beauty either. Might check that the needle isn't bent though, just to be on the safe side...
