Whiter than White.

Anybody any good at translating Italian?. My Car carries a plate saying it's AR013, SpinoBianco. I perhaps wrongly assumed this was Pinanfarina White, as the colour Chart in the AROC book on Guilia Coupes seems to say 1968 GTV's were available in Pininfarina, but not the alternative which was Hawthorn White.'
But I have now checked the history of the Car thro 'Elvira Ruocco'
at Archivio Alfa Romeo, they say it IS Hawthorn White, so the question is does Spino translate as Hawthorn??

What has really set me thinking is that I bought some Top Coat from a local Paint supplier, they made it up to the correct colour from the AR013, 'receipe' but it has far too much Greeny Blue in it and sticks out a mile.

I was also parked next to a Guilia Saloon at ERAD on Sunday, which was much closer to the Paint colour I made up.

I am starting to come to the conclusion that mine has been resprayed with a non original Alfa White, but the Paint Code plate has been left on. Parts of the Car inside the Engine Bay, and Boot are a different shade, but this would be normal, due to the differing fading rates anyway.

Re: Whiter than White.

Blimey hope not Wrinx 'Bone white' doesn't quite have the sort of ring to it you might expect from Alfa.

Was I right first time then, is Spino another name for Pinan...farina...

Something odd about this Wrinx, Spinobianco appears as AR008, and AR013, as does Hawthorn White, but Pinanfarina White, only appears as AR008.

So it does seem that Spino, and Hawthorn are likely to be the same colour, though perhaps with a different code for different years.

Re: Whiter than White.

Its unsuprising it doesn't look the same colour as your car because white always tints over the years so unless you are doing a full body respray, is a nightmare to match that only a really good body shop can attempt

Re: Whiter than White.

Think your fundementally right Max, but I also think mine has had a respray at some point, (Well I Know it has had a full one actually) but they must have used a different shade of white. My only option it seems is to take it the Paint supplier and ask them to mix me the closest match they can. Presumably they can then give me he formulae so i can match it again if I need to.
Or I could respray the whole thing rosso....or maybe Ochre....

Re: Whiter than White.

"Spinobianco" literally means "white thorn" and is the Italian word for "hawthorn". The Alfa colour appears in English brochures as "Hawthorn White"

Re: Whiter than White.

Don't go Red!!!! Such a shame when everyone paints their 105s in AR501. The original colours are gorgeous, esp. GTVs in Periwinkle Blue Met. and 1750s in ochre. The only 105 that should be red is a GTA and even that looks better in white! Gonna do our next GTA race car in white.... separate us from the masses!! Take it easy!
p.s. we are buying a Radical SR3 for my brother and i to race next year.... 250bhp, 500kgs....i'll let you do th maths!!!! gonna keep my busy i reckon!!!

Re: Whiter than White.

Actually I wouldn't even consider changing the Colour Max, I am happy enough with White, and it would be more economic to trade it in for another one in another colour than spray the whole Car to a reasonable standard.

That line in the post was tongue in cheek.

I am obviously going to have to decide which colour of White I will be using though, so my only option is to get the best match for the majority of the outside of the Car.
It doesn't look like it will be Hawthorn White, (SpinoBianco), as that seems to be miles out from it's current colour.
