105 series coupe wanted!
I am the current owner of a 156 2.0 and want something for high days and holidays. I am looking for a 105 series coupe, not too worried which model; more interested in solid bodywork etc!
I have seen a few but they are either rotten or over priced rubbish.
Can anyone help?

Re: 105 series coupe wanted!
About £7,000. I know that that won't get me a mint one, but if it is structurally sound I don't mind sorting it out as I go along.

Re: 105 series coupe wanted!
There is a nice looking GT Junior in Classic Car weekly this week. Percival Motor company Kent. £5995.
Looks OK in the article.
You should be able to get a good one for 7K, I recently paid a lot less for mine, and whilst not perfect it isn't a total wreck. (Yet )
Good luck, there seems to be a bit of a run on 105 coupes at the moment......

Visit www.alfaholics.com, Richard Banks is a specialist in 105 Alfa's and generally knows who has what for sale at the moment and can push you in the right direction and give you techical advise on what to look for on the cars. Alfaholics also stocks every part for these cars from panels right down service parts. Ring 01398 351 360

Re: 105 series coupe wanted!
Thanks for all the help chaps; spent the day on-line and reading old classic car magazines (what a fantastic way to spend a day off!).
Did a series of tests with "she who must be obeyed" (showing her various pictures of interiors, exteriors and colours) and we both agree that it has to be a 1750 GTV in red.
Predictable eh?
Now, where can I get one? Bottle of malt for anyone who can help me find one ...

Re: 105 series coupe wanted!
The MKII 1750 is the nicer of the 1750's, thin bumpers, different interior, and the 1750 is generally the most liked model of the 105 coupes, ring Richard Banks on 01398 351 360, he should be able to point you in the right direction for a good car and what to look for

Try the classified adverts on the AROC website:
www.************
They're updated monthly.
The guy who looks after mine usually has a Bertone or two for sale. Call Ian Ellis on 01273 857077.

Re: 105 series coupe wanted!
Mr Banks - welcome to AO!
Just be careful that you don't contravene the adverstising rules here.
Mr Rat
Simon Whiting at Gran Turismo Engineering has a red Mk 1 1750 in for less than your budget, but it does need some body work doing. Worth asking what the total damage is going to be!! Tel 020 8332 7633.
Also have a look here : http://www.classicalfa.com/cars.htm
The 1750 is indeed the choice car.
(But not necessarily in red!).

Re: 105 series coupe wanted!
Well, I've gone and done it! Remember we decided that it had to be a red 1750?
Well.
Obviously we have bought a blue 2000 GTV SE ...
Seems in good shape, not perfect, but one family owned since new, 2500 miles in the last ten years and 58000 on the clock in total.
Just driven it the 75 miles home and it went very well. Loosening up all the time (I guess that is the penalty for not having been used much lately) and the only two faults that showed up were a sticking speedo needle (flick the glass and it then reads correctly until you change speed, flick again and repeat at regular intervals) and it overheated badly. Bubbles (BIG bubbles) in the overflow tank and nearly off the scale on the temperature gauge, but no signs of mayonaisse in the oil or oil in the water so hopefully it is just a blocked radiator as there is a lot of limescale in there. Does that sound plausible or are there big bills ahead???
Also, anyone know of a good independent garage in the Bury St Edmunds or Suffolk/Norfolk area?

Re: 105 series coupe wanted!
Blimey! So you made your mind up in two days flat?
I've never heard of that happening before!!
Check that the fan goes round with the engine, and that it is still intact. Check also that nothing is blocking the airflow - (raging) horn, spotlights, oily rag etc. etc. After that, it could be a bunged up rad. You can take the rad out and run a hose through it. What goes in at one end, "should" come out the other.
Has it got any oil in it?
And where are the pictures!!!

You can post pics on this thread only if you reduce them to a 100 thingies in a photo editor like paint shop pro. But as far as I know you can post bigger pics in the image lounge, if you host them on a service like fotango.

Re: 105 series coupe wanted!
Speedo problem is quite common, more than likely to be the speedo head, . Sounds like the rad is knackered, they do deteriorate and its more than likely that it is the original rad, re-con rads are available at £125 on exchange from Alfaholics. Richard Banks may also know where to get your car serviced as he used to live just outside Newmarket
Good luck with the car!

Re: 105 series coupe wanted!
Well, here she is!!
Flushed out the radiator today; loads of limescale came out, so hopefully that has cured it; the thermostat was siezed closed with limescale too, so a new one is on order.
Thanks for all your help - as a new member it is nice to have such a friendly bunch (I got told off once on a Land Rover forum for talking about Bruce Springsteen with another member!!)

That looks fantastic - I can see why it didn't take long to make up your mind.
Looks very "classic" in those colours.

Ah well, it's different here. Five consecutive posts on "topic" and you get banned.
I suppose it also depends on whether you were saying Brucey was good or bad!
The GTV looks very nice indeed. Hope the cooling system has settled down. As you mentioned earlier, there may be a few niggles which come to light with so little use over the last few years, but I hope nothing too grim. A few laps of Castle Combe should sort her out!
