Re: Cost of 105 GTV
New question, probably dumb, I twigged the other day that a lot of 2000 GTVs have fuel injection - is that universal or just USA? Is that the reason for the alleged reduced sweetness compared to the 1750, or is it because of stroking (phnaar?)

Re: Cost of 105 GTV
I think the Spica is just in the USA, and the 2000 engine retained the same stroke of 88.5mm but increased the bore from 80 to 84mm. Other changes included, nitrided crankshafts to reduce wear, larger intake valves and a different style oil filter. So I can't explain why the 1750 is the supposed sweeter engine. The 1750 was a 82 to 88.5mm stroke increase over the 1600 which is supposed to be free-revving.
2000 gives 132 bhp @ 5500, 152.6lb ft @ 3000
1750 " 118 bhp @ 5500, 137.4lb ft @ 2900
1600 " 106 bhp @ 6000, 97.5lb ft @ 3850 GT
1600 " 109 bhp @ 6000 GTV
1600 " 115 bhp @ 6000, 116lb ft @ 3000 GTA
1300 " 89 bhp
According to people who've driven several of the engines they all have their merits, the 1300 being a bit of a screamer.

As far as I'm aware (not far, admittedly), the only Bertones to have fuel injection were GTAms. However, US-spec Spiders were commonly fitted with SPICA injection systems.
I'll ask a man who should know for sure.

Re: Cost of 105 GTV
Wrong: for the second time tonight. The man who knows says that SPICA fuel injection was standard on the 1750 GT Veloce America (1968-1971) and 2000 GT Veloce America (1971-1975).
I make no assumptions about which market these cars were intended for. I'd probably get that wrong as well.

Re: Cost of 105 GTV
Numerically you're more likely to find a 2000 than a 1750, more were produced & they're newer. You'll be lucky to get a tax exempt one though because of time issue. But don't get too hung up on saving £160 (or whatever it is now) because that will be insignificant in running costs.
The 2000 is a lot more torquey than the 1600 & 1750 and ultimately faster & more powerful. But as standard it does run a bit flat at the top end so doesn't feel quite so sporty. But there's an easy fix. Just fit a 4 branch manifold and it transforms the engine to give perfectly smooth power right into & above red line.
The earlier cars are undoubtedly prettier. Try & get one with an LSD, it makes a lot of difference.
My ideal spec would be 2000 mildly tweaked engine with LSD in 1750 body

I quite like the two lights Nick.
Gives it more of a GTA feel.

Re: Cost of 105 GTV
As we're indulging ourselves, here's my '73 2000 GTV.
Engine: gas flowed heads, lightened flywheel, fast road (10.9 mm) cams, GTA-style intake trumpets
Brakes: bias-adjustable master cylinders, servo on front system only, braided hoses
Suspension: lowered, adjustable Konis all round, back anti-roll bar removed
Bodywork: lightened (fibreglass) panels, doors, bonnet and bootlid
Driver: sh*te
Photos:
1 In the wet (very slippy that day)
2 Offside rear view
3 Engine showing the intake trumpets
4 Front view
5 Following a Spider down the Mulsanne straight @ Le Mans
6 Hacking round Goodwood

Would love to look at the pics Bill, but they don't seem to want to load up.

Are they large images?.

Re: Cost of 105 GTV
Thanks guts, I'm overwhelmed by the response, and the enthusiasm. I personally think the 1750 is the sweetest looking of the lot, both inside and out. I'm not too hung up on the road tax (although it makes it easier to justify to 'er indoors!) but it is a benefit. Also, I'm a 1972 model as well - I know it's not a great reason for choosing a car, maybe it's fate?? I like the idea of mildly tuning the 2000; I guess I had in the back of my mind that I would want to do some of the things that Bill suggests

Re: Cost of 105 GTV
Bill, very nice, I bet she moves a bit. Are the brake improvements with track days in mind or have they improved their performance on the road too? And was the brake work easy to carry out?

Re: Cost of 105 GTV
Nice one Bill!!!

I just missed out on buying something very similar, and I am gutted.
I fannyed around for too long and it went.

I am now hatching a grand plan*.
Don't you worry about not having air filters on it?
If you take your front number plate off, are there two more slots behind it?
*Do you want to sell it?

1) I usually have foam "socks" (see EB's website) over the trumpets. They come off for photo shoots or when I'm trying to scare the children with induction roar.
2) Yes.
3) Everything is for sale.
