'76 Spider head studs

Still looking for a set of head mounting studs for my spider. One of them is broken. Haven't found any yet.
Did just get a message from a "knowledgeable" source that told me these are quite tricky to replace and that I should consider buying a used block.
Well, I don't think that I can afford to consider that so I have to tackle it when I find the parts or make a set.
Have any of you folks had to change out a set? I can understand the difficulty in getting a straight crank on them (without side loading,) but are there any other hidden gremlims? Can I replace just one, or do I need to replace the set? The one that came loose was quite weakened.

Re: '76 Spider head studs

Had a quick look at the 'usual suspect' suppliers, and found that Classic Alfa does 2000 head studs for $21.22 ea (p/n EN131). Did not see any at Highwood or EB Spares...FWIW

The studs are readily available (I think) but are an absolute pig to change by all accounts. The chances of removing the stud without snapping it off in the block are slim as they corrode into the block. I'm afraid a good used block is your best alternative.

Being new to Alfas, I didn't realise there was a "usual suspects" list of suppliers. That's heartening. Thanks.

I've heard it can go either way. Some have had good luck, but unfortunately, the majority agrees with you. Being the stubborn gearhead that I've been accused of being, I've gotta give it a try first.
As an aside, I've noticed that there seems to be a healthy Alfa contingent there in the U.K. I had an office in Oxford for about a year back in the early '90s. I've always recalled those days fondly.

Hi Drew. Good luck with it. Like you say, it's always worth a try!! Your US based list of Usual Suspects should include Centerline Alfa Romeo (888) 750-ALFA and Welcome to International Auto Parts if you haven't found them yet.
