Rear Heated Window Relay

i have finally got the combo switch i need for my hardtop. the problem i have is what relay should i buy?
I have bought two 5 pin relays and both are constant on, however if I put the realy in from the horns all is well.
Should I a spacific type of relay or is there something else i should be looking at to resolve the problem?

Re: Rear Heated Window Relay

No idea how to fix your problem but I can only admire your dedication in getting down to getting a hardtop HRW to work. Thats about number 3476 on my list of jobs to do.

You shouldn't need it for 6 months so my recommendation is to forget it till October. Not much help I'm afraid.

I believe that this is the problem. The heated rear window relay should be a constant off (aka Normally Open [NO]). This is borne out by the horn relay working the HRW. Perhaps just install another horn relay?

Re: Rear Heated Window Relay

Thanks for your help.
I think I have had the hard top off the car for a total of 7 days this year because of the foul weather.....

I was finally able to resolve the issue and get the RHW working. The relay from the horn, and in fact most of the 5 pin relays have pins 87 and 87. This means that both are always off and do not supply power until i switch on the RHW. The Relays i bought have a 87 and a 87a pins. So after a short piece of work I was able to 'fix' the relay to provide me with 2 87 pins.....

All seems to work just fine. So in the early morning starts, I have the warmth and dryness of the hard top and am able to see out of the back window clearly. I have noticed it does not use alot of power either, and my volt meter drops only slightly when compared to the wipers, or the electric windows or even the heater blower....

Next project has to be the alternator.......
