Speedo faulty

Hi, Anybody had an issue with the speedo just stopping. I noticed on the way home tonight that my speddo(S3 Spider 1987) was not working. It was fine this morning on the way to work, but isn't now.

I was able to find a blown fuse(7th), but it still isn't working after replacing this. So any ideas on where to start looking next would be great.....

Also does anybody know if they will be going to the Enfield motor pagent this year?

Re: Speedo faulty

Hi
I have an '84 electronic speedo which stops intermittently. I think it may be due to the loose connection at the terminals on the gearbox. Hope this helps.

Re: Speedo faulty

The speedo on my series 4 packed up a while back. I traced the wires through from the pod and found a (dis)connector buried by the brake servo.
I pulled it apart and gave it a vigorous clean.... reconnected it and the speedo has been fine ever since.

Re: Speedo faulty

thanks ..i did notice that the speedo cable connects to a box thingy under the bonnet next to the brakes servo, but the connector is clear of that, just. and is connected.

Does anybody know what the cable connects to and what or how turnning the nut on the other end does?

Re: Speedo faulty

My Series 3 electronic speedo has just stopped working. Car hasn't been used for 3 years, and was ok this morning but is now stuck on 18mph. The cable is fine going into the electronic encoder, but because it is stuck on 18mph, I'm tending to think that the problem is in the speedo head itself.

Any suggestions?

Re: Speedo faulty

I think your right. My issue was with a blown fuse(Number 7), that kept blowing. It might be worth checking just to rule it out.

Other than that you could be right and it it is the speedo rather than the cable that is at fault. The other thing i did check was that the cable was able to spin freeely before i reconnected it to the encoder.

I should add that the 18mph that the needle is continually pointing to is actually the rest position, and the needle is touching the pin (only realised when I looked closely).
The cable is new and rotates fine when the car is moved, so I think the fault has to be either the encoder that the cable connects to under the bonnet, a fault in the speedo, or the wiring somewhere between.
Lastly, my speedo is the single pod type that houses all gauges. Everything works as it should except the speedo and the mileometer.

Sorry if I've jumped in on someone else's thread, but I hoped the information could be useful to all of us. (It could be yours next week!)
