Spider Cutting Out

Hi All,

It's time to get the S2 back out of the garage for the summer, but it's not well

It's a 1976 Spider Veloce 2000 with weber 40's with K&N Filters on it.

Symptoms are:

Engine Starts and runs but then cuts out again shortly afterwards, with smoke coming out of the Air Filters almost like it's backfiring? . Altthough The carbs used to have a tendancy to Pop a bit .

Carbs sound muffled and not as noisy as they normally are.

Is this a timing issue or do I need to do something with the carbs? I've tried advancing and retarding the timing but no joy . Also replaced the spark plugs as the old ones were a bit messy.

Grateful for any advice

Re: Spider Cutting Out

Hi jonspiderman , sounds like it needs a good run , if its been parked up for a bit the fuel can get a bit contaminated and cause rich blackning and oil fouling at the plugs . Cheap supermarket fuel helps the wallet but alfas dont like it try some premium 97 /98 octane fuel . Also check and clean all electrical connections , include inside of dizzy and cap , check rubbers on carb to manifold have not perished . Try starting up with air filter box off for a short period to get things going and watch for HT leads insulation breaking down , if you can run it late when its dark , look for sparks around HT lead area Hope it helps , took me 2 1/2 days to get mine going in winter but it was minus 2 at the time .Cheers Alan
let me know how you get on
