Non-starter

Hi

I took the S4 out the garage a couple of weeks ago to get ready for the summer, it started fine (after charging the battery) and I let it tick over for 20 mins outside, no issues.

I then jumped in to drive back into the garage and it stalled. It hasn't started since . The car has always started first time. I thought it maybe fuel as I didn't know how much was in there, so I put 2 litres in and it still only turns over. Now this is like when I haven't switched the immobiliser off, but as the keys died a long time ago and I didn't seem to need them for ages, I thought maybe it had 'repaired' itself. So, I bought new batteries but still the car just turns over and doesn't fire.

Any ideas? If it is fuel, have I put in enough to rule this out?

I know very little mechanically but need to get it to the garage for it's service and mot - what a pain.

Anyway, if they're are any common issues I'd be glad to hear.

Re: Non-starter

If it fired up and ran for 20min and now will only turnover it is possibly related to fuel. Make sure you have enough fuel in the tank for the fuel pump to pick up. Suggest you put in a least 5ltr. If as you say you are not mechanically minded any on line diagnosis is going to be difficult. My suggestion is that you call out one of the 'home start' people.

Thanks Renone - this seems to be the opinion that I have been too frugal with the fuel - I have got home start cover but it states I should have valid tax and mot - but this is where it was off to get But I may still give them a bash and act daft - after adding some more fuel - cheers

Re: Non-starter

Hi renone

I put 5ltrs more fuel in but still no luck - I bit the bullet and phoned the homestart recovery people today and they didn't ask about the MOT & Tax status - the guy came out and said it was electrical - either a connection or the immobiliser - he offered to take it to a garage of my choice, so as this is where I wanted it to take it to anyway we loaded up the car and off it went - so I should get her back by the weekend and off SORN for the summer after I pay the garage bill

Re: Non-starter

Well Spidey returned today - nearly 3 weeks after waving her off on the back of a recovery truck - nothing much wrong, just the flaming immobiliser, pesky thing It had a loose connection behind the fuse box and was cutting in and disabling the ignition - I had the thing removed completely, it constantly drained the battery.

So the Spider was serviced, mot and taxed - I had the bodywork deep polished, a polished rocker cover fitted and a few other small jobs. She is driving like an absolute dream and it's the right side of the summer
