1970 Alfa Romeo GT Junior Purchase Questions

Hello

I am looking at purchasing a 1970 Alfa Romeo GT Junior.
I have a few questions;

What are the obvious things to look for apart from rust..
Could she be used as a daily runner. 30 miles a day.
Are they easy to maintian.

I will ascertain here if about spares, I know someone who owns 3 of them, but have not really spoken in detail with him.

Re: 1970 Alfa Romeo GT Junior Purchase Questions

Hi,
Make sure the car is as close to original with very little modifications. Many SA cars were modified, some good most bad.Bringing a 105 back to original can cost a packet.
The engine is bullet-proof,much like the 1400 Nissan bakkie.
The rubber-coupling on the driveshaft is usually worn out because of over-eager boy racers.(easy to replace)
Service costs is very low,but be prepared to get your hands dirty.
If you don't like to get your hands dirty or doing your own maintenance/repairs stay away from a classic Alfa.
I used my '76 Spider as a daily runner and always left it unlocked when I lived in Johannesburg.Hijackers and car thieves tend to go for more common cars.
ps.THEY ARE NOT CHEAP ON FUEL!

Regards

Spares are easy to get here I found out.

The only expense is new weber Carbs.
About 1000 pounds

Hi Gilbert,
Good luck with the search. On your Webers, why do you want 'new' at 1000 pounds? Take the old ones off, and disassemble them. Bead blast the bodies, (they come up better than new) and rebuild them with a new carb kit to install - about $60 a pair. Save your money!

Cheers and happy hunting.

Not sure where you are in Cape Town, but you call a chap called Chico at ALF Centre in Gordons Bay on 856 3836. I am sure he would check it out for you.

My 69 Step front junior is there at the mo having burnt valves replaced.

Thanks

Will look around

By the way Italsud in CTN also do juniors, always 3 - 6 outside. Also bring in spares from the UK.

Just kidding, but what a lesson in how to ruin a perfectly good automobile. You almost feel like buying it just to save it!
