Spider seats re-padded

The seat bases on my Spider had sagged quite a bit....... it was like sitting on a plank....... so I had a go at fixing them.

Because I'm a cheapskate, rather than buy new inserts, I managed to fix them by inserting some medium density foam into the "slots" in the original foam bases.

I didn't take any pics (sorry ) but if you remove the seats (4 bolts per seat) and then remove the seat base (drill out the pop rivets) you will probably find as I did that the original foam is still OK...... but the foam ribs have collapsed sideways.

All I did was cut some medium density foam such that it fits between the ribs and reassembled the seat.

The difference is amazing and as I said before it didn't cost much.

Well worth the effort

Re: Spider seats re-padded

Thats good, I'm trying to take off the boot badge to replace it, I read that fishing line would work, I don't want to gouge my paint. I replaced the Alfaromeo script yesterday, it looks nice.
Both drivers seats are squashed, I could use some height and a softer seat

Warm the badge first with a hair dryer or wait for a hot day. The fishing line did not work for me so I used a wire fishing trace from a sea fishing lure. My wife tried the seat yesterday and reckons its brilliant!

Re: Spider seats re-padded

Hi,
I've just bought an S4 and have new seat covers ready to fit. I've had a look under the seat and the 4 Allen head bolts don't look the easiest things to get at. Any tips ?

Regards

Re: Spider seats re-padded

Move the seat back and remove the front allen's. Move seat forward and recline remove the rear allen's. Make sure you don't loose the spacers and also make sure you place the same allen's in the original holes. Also if you are replacing the seat covers you should change the seat foam as it will undoubtably be worn out.
