Re: 1750 engine

The 105 range had 1300, 1600, 1750 and 2000 engines all of the same configuration so you have got a 1750 engine from a Spider, GT or Berlina.

My avatar is of my 1750 GT Veloce from 1968. The 1750 engine was available from 1967 to about 1972 and it is many people's favourite as it has almost the oomph of the 2000 and almost the rev happiness of the 1300.

Re: 1750 engine

Hi GME DIGITAL
Good lock with your project. If you have a 1300 gearbox on the back of your 1750 lump your top speed will suffer ( will still exceed all speed limits) but wow you will reach 0-60 quick.

I used to put 2000 units from saloons onto 1600 boxes, Good combination for acceliration.
Keep us all posted.

That's not quite true Filbyman. The only difference with the 1300 box is that 5th gear is lower so acceleration improves only in 5th, and as you say top speed will be reduced. The other 4 gears are the same as normal.

You can start messing around with diffs though as a number of ratios were available e.g. the 2000 Berlina diff (4:3) is a sought after item to replace the standard GTV item (4:1).

Thats strange, I thought they were different!
Was that the same for the saloons?

Re: 1750 engine

Probably or everybody who is looking for acceleration not top speed would be sniffing out Berlina boxes which would be cheaper than 4.3 diffs.
It's a fine motor is the 1750, which ever box is behind it

Yes. And Spiders too. Just 1300s had the shorter 5th gear.

Christo - thanks for that page. The 1983 Alfetta had the transaxle box so it might not be the same ratios as the 105.

Re: 1750 engine

Thanks everyone for gearbox ratio info, I new about the diff but obviously not the box. You learn something new every day and if it’s about Alfa’s, then this is the best place to find out.

Re: 1750 engine

You can read all about the different variants and their differences here
Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce by Wille R.
Gearboxes are the same for all models exept 1300 with a shorter 5th.
Differentials had 4,1:1, 4,3:1 and 4.55:1 with LSD optional on 1750s and standard on (most) 2000s
