Help! Kamm-Tail Spider - Leaks when raining

Hi,
Wanted to ask if anyone has any expierience of the typical whereabouts of any leaks inside a 70's Kamm-Tail Spider.

I have been busy trying to clean-up the inside of my LHD car and noticed what seems to be 2 different leaks inside the car whenever it rains.

The first leak makes a puddle in the drivers footwell whereas the second leak produces a smaller puddle just at the back of one of the 2bars that the seat bolts down onto.

These areas can be seen in the attached pictures.

I would guess that the footwell puddle may be due to a leaky windscreen rubber(?) but the smaller puddle has me stumped. Could there be a channel somewhere that may be blocked?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Wested

Re: Help! Kamm-Tail Spider - Leaks when raining

My S3 Spider had a leak into the footwell which was traced to the drain from infront of the windscreen. This is a rubber hose which feeds from the area where the wiper motor and linkage is, into the area behind the dashboard and then into the wheel arch. This hose had a split in it which I sealed with self sealing rubber tape.

Hey, Thanks Tankman...

That does sound quite similar to my footwell leak as I've also noticed a little water on the wiring (next to the fusebox)...Eck!

Wonder if this is also related to my intermittent indicator..?

Will check it out this weekend.

Anyone have an idea about the other leak near where the seat bolts down..?

Ta,
Wested

I agree with Tankman; I would assure myself that windscreen rubber is sound, that top header-to-windscreen seal is sound, and that the 1/4 window rubbers haven't perished first - after that, the aforementioned drain tubes are prime suspect. I have seen tubes where DPO's have shoved wire coat hangers, etc down them, in an attempt to clear out leaf debris, etc, and in doing so, poke holes through the drain tubes (or tear them at their clamps at top of tubes). Passenger side is easy to get to with glovebox removed. You can have an assistant tip a little water into the vent slots ahead of windscreen while you watch from below. (Don't get carried away, as windscreen wiper motor lives in that sump beneath louvers, and can easily 'drown' if drain tube is blocked.
Good Luck!

when in trouble, when in doubt...run in circles, wave and shout !

Re: Help! Kamm-Tail Spider - Leaks when raining

There is also a harness bundle from wiper motor which passes through bulkhead ahead of glovebox - the grommet around this isn't too swift, and if the harness droops down, water could track along the harness and drip off at lowest point of harness...just another thought. My recent repairs brought this to light.
Another random thought - the windscreen wiper stems poke through that louvered panel ahead of windscreen - my car had large-ish gaps around the beveled plastic grommets beneath wipers, and allowed water into the cowl area as well.
