Alfa VIN Verification

I bought an Alfa GTV 2000 last fall (Sep 07). It was reportedly sold new in 1974 in CA USA but is titled as a 1973; however, the VIN is a higher number than several 74s I have seen advertised recently. In my limited experience with Alfas, it was usually the other way around, especially for cars sold in Europe - Alfas would be produced but sit in show rooms for a while and get titled the year sold vs. the year produced as opposed to the US method. Is there any official or other Alfa production data showing VINs produced by year? If mine is really a 74 & I can prove it, I will apply for a correction to my title.

If you email your VIN number to ArchivioStorico@alfaromeo.com they will email you back with what they can tell you e.g. original colour, build date etc.

Rick, Man did this work great. I already got a reply from Marco @ ArchivioStorico@alfaromeo.com confirming that my car is an authentic 1973, manufactured in Oct 73 and sold in California in Oct 73. The original color is true also even though the color code sticker was apparently removed or oversprayed during repaint some years ago. I was pretty sure it had been repainted in the original color because all of the telltale places were the right color but one can never be as sure as the records.
